This is the one TGT post in the recruitment where the paper is not the main barrier. Every other TGT code asks for a degree in a school subject; 43/26 asks instead for an RCI-recognised professional qualification in special education and a live RCI registration, and a candidate without both is ineligible however well they score. What this means for your preparation
TGT Special Education is not a subject post and treating it as one is the mistake that ends most applications. There is no Punjabi, physics or history behind it. What DSSSB asks for is an RCI-recognised professional qualification in special education and a current registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India, held on the crucial date of 15 July 2026, plus CTET at the Elementary Stage. A candidate with an excellent B.Ed. and a strong score but no RCI registration is rejected at document verification, and no amount of preparation repairs that.
RCI registration is a document, not a credential you infer
The advertisement lists registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India as a distinct requirement, separate from the qualification itself. Holding a B.Ed. in Special Education does not by itself satisfy it; the registration is issued by the Council and has to be live. Because 15 July 2026 was fixed as the crucial date, the registration had to be in force on that day, not merely applied for. Candidates who let a registration lapse, or who completed an RCI-recognised course but never registered, are the group most often filtered out after the written stage. If you applied, check the validity and renewal status of your registration now rather than at verification.
Which qualifications the notification actually accepts
The essential qualification is graduation plus one of a defined set: B.Ed. (Special Education); or B.Ed. (General) with a one-year Diploma in Special Education; or an equivalent qualification approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. The earlier cycle's wording under Advertisement 06/2025 also admitted a B.Ed. with a two-year diploma in special education or a post-graduate professional diploma in special education. The operative test in every version is RCI approval of the course, so the question to ask about any programme is not what it is called but whether the Council recognises it. Elementary against Primary: the CTET split
Advertisement 03/2026 carries two special education posts with different CTET stages. TGT Special Education 43/26 requires CTET at the Elementary Stage, which is Paper II, with a 5 per cent relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PH candidates. Special Educator Primary 44/26 requires the Primary Stage, which is Paper I, and takes a twelfth pass plus a two-year D.Ed. in Special Education instead of a degree. They also differ in pay: Level 7 at Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400 for the TGT post against Level 6 at Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 for the primary one. Applying against the wrong stage of CTET is a common and unrecoverable error.
What Section B holds when there is no subject
The scheme of examination uses one sentence for every post in the advertisement: Section B is MCQs of one mark each from the subject concerned, including questions on teaching methodology and B.Ed. For 43/26 the subject concerned is special education itself, so the whole 100 marks come from the professional field rather than from a school subject. Coaching summaries of the special education paper describe it as the psychology of exceptional children, disability types, inclusive education, assessment, individualised education programmes, assistive technology and teaching methodology; DSSSB does not print a topic list, so treat that as a reasonable map and not as the board's syllabus.
The cut-off history, and why the general half matters
Cut-off figures reported for a Special Education Teacher post in 2022 were 80.10 for UR, 70.15 for OBC, 60.20 for SC and 60.97 for ST out of 200. Those sit well below the figures reported for the general subject posts in the same family, which reflects a small, credential-restricted field rather than an easy paper, and they should be read as historical and indicative, not as a target for 43/26. The practical consequence is that Section A, 100 marks of General Awareness, reasoning, numerical ability, Hindi and English, is decisive: with the professional half narrow and the field uniformly qualified, the general half is where a 163-seat merit list separates.
