DSSSB PGT scheme of examination at a glance

Section I is made up of Mental Ability and Reasoning, General Awareness, English Language, Hindi Language and Arithmetical and Numerical Ability, each at 20 marks. Section II is twice the weight of the whole general section put together, which is the single most important structural fact about this exam. Ex-servicemen get a five per cent relaxation within their category subject to a minimum of 30 per cent.

Dates and windows

This calendar is common to every subject advertised under post codes 824/24 to 834/24; there is one application window and one block of examination dates for the whole recruitment. What is not common is the result date, because DSSSB declares results separately for each post code, so subjects finish the cycle months apart.

What this means for your preparation

Two things trip up first-time DSSSB PGT candidates. The first is expecting a preliminary and a main examination: for these post codes there is only one paper, and everything is decided in a single three-hour sitting. The second is the post code itself. You do not apply to a subject, you apply to a numbered post code that fixes the subject, the school management and the gender category, and merit is computed inside that code and nowhere else.

The post code is the unit of the whole process

Everything DSSSB does is organised around post codes, not subject names. Under Advertisement 10/2024 the PGT codes run 824/24 for Hindi, 825/24 Mathematics, 826/24 Physics, 827/24 Chemistry, 828/24 Biology, 829/24 Economics, 830/24 Commerce, 831/24 History, 832/24 Geography, 833/24 Political Science and 834/24 Sociology. The admit card, the shift, the answer key, the result notice, the cut-off and the e-dossier call are all issued against that code. Two candidates sitting the same three-hour paper on the same afternoon in different codes are not competing with each other at all. When you look up a cut-off or a result, look it up by code and by the male or female sub-list within it, because a single subject frequently produces two quite different cut-offs.

One tier, and Section II decides it

The paper is 300 objective questions for 300 marks in three hours with 0.25 negative marking. Section I contributes 100 marks spread across Mental Ability and Reasoning, General Awareness, English, Hindi and Numerical Ability at 20 marks each. Section II contributes 200 marks and is described in the advertisement as questions pertaining to the post-graduation qualification and the teaching methodology required for the post. A candidate who scores a flawless 100 in Section I and 90 in Section II finishes below one who scores 60 and 150. The proportionate reward for revising the subject is therefore double, and the general section is best treated as a place to avoid losses rather than to build a lead. Questions are set bilingually in Hindi and English except in the language papers.

Which school managements actually advertise

DSSSB recruits teachers for several Delhi school managements, and each one that raises a requisition gets its own post codes: the Directorate of Education, the New Delhi Municipal Council, the municipal corporation schools and the Delhi Cantonment Board have all appeared over the years. In this cycle the position is simple and worth knowing before you plan around it: all 432 PGT posts in Advertisement 10/2024 belong to the Directorate of Education, and the NDMC entry in the tables records that no requisition was received. There is consequently no NDMC, municipal corporation or Cantonment Board PGT code to apply to under this advertisement, and a candidate specifically seeking one of those managements has to wait for a fresh notification.

Eligibility, and why CTET does not appear

The essential qualification is a master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50 per cent marks in aggregate, together with a Bachelor of Education, or B.A.B.Ed. or B.Sc.B.Ed., or a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution. CTET is not listed among the essential qualifications for these PGT post codes, which follows from CTET being a test for classes one to eight while a PGT teaches senior secondary classes. Candidates carry over an assumption from PRT and TGT recruitment, where a teacher eligibility test is central, and either wrongly exclude themselves or waste a cycle preparing for the wrong certificate. The advertisement as circulated states an age limit of not exceeding 30 years, relaxable for government servants by up to five years, while several recruitment sites report 36; verify the figure against the advertisement text for your own code before relying on it.

How the cycle ends and what turnout tells you

After each post code's result DSSSB publishes marks and then calls provisionally shortlisted candidates for e-dossier submission, an online document verification step that precedes appointment. Results for this cycle have been released one code at a time from June 2026 onward rather than in a single announcement, so an absent result for your subject in September does not imply a problem. The attendance figures DSSSB itself published during the April sittings are the most useful planning data in the whole cycle: in the PGT Biology shift on 14 April only 678 of 2,729 allotted candidates appeared. On paper-to-vacancy ratios like that, the real competition in a small code is far narrower than the registration count suggests.

Common questions

Is DSSSB PGT a one-tier or two-tier exam?

For the PGT post codes advertised under Advertisement 10/2024 it is one tier. Candidates sit a single computer-based test of 300 objective questions carrying 300 marks over three hours, and selection follows from that paper alone. DSSSB does operate a two-tier scheme for some other posts it recruits for, which is where the confusion comes from, but there is no separate preliminary and main examination for these Post Graduate Teacher codes. Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies to each wrong answer.

What is a DSSSB post code and why does it matter?

A post code is the numbered identifier DSSSB assigns to a specific post with a specific school management and gender category, such as 828/24 for PGT Biology under the Directorate of Education. Applications, admit cards, answer keys, results, cut-offs and document verification calls are all issued against the code, and merit is calculated within it. Because vacancies, male and female sub-lists and category splits differ from code to code, cut-offs for the same subject can differ substantially, and a cut-off quoted without its post code is not useful.

How many vacancies are there in the current DSSSB PGT recruitment?

Advertisement 10/2024 carries 432 Post Graduate Teacher vacancies, all with the Directorate of Education, including 20 reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities. The subject-wise split reported from the notification is Hindi 91, Economics 82, Political Science 78, History 61, Commerce 37, Mathematics 31, Geography 22, Biology 13, Chemistry 7, Physics 5 and Sociology 5. The posts are Group B at Pay Level 8. The New Delhi Municipal Council raised no requisition, so no NDMC codes were opened.

Is CTET required for DSSSB PGT?

CTET does not appear among the essential qualifications for the PGT post codes in Advertisement 10/2024. What is required is a master's degree in the subject with at least 50 per cent aggregate marks, together with a B.Ed., or B.A.B.Ed. or B.Sc.B.Ed., or a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution. CTET certifies teachers for classes one to eight, while a Post Graduate Teacher handles senior secondary classes, which is why the requirement that dominates PRT and TGT recruitment does not carry over here.

When will the remaining DSSSB PGT results be declared?

There is no announced schedule. DSSSB has been releasing this cycle's results post code by post code since June 2026, beginning with a Sanskrit code, followed by History, Physics and Hindi in July, Commerce and Chemistry in August and a Sanskrit code in September, with marks published separately for Mathematics and Biology. Codes that have not yet appeared, Economics among them, remain pending with no date given. Result notices are published on dsssb.delhi.gov.in and individual scorecards through the OARS module on dsssbonline.nic.in.
