Alerts and Updates for BPSC TRE Higher Secondary Economics

Updates as of September 22, 2026

Economics is among the smallest higher secondary subjects in BPSC TRE 4 at 138 posts, a figure reported identically by Physics Wallah, Testbook and Notifyhere. Testbook's category split of that total is about 58 unreserved, 21 BC, 18 SC, 14 EBC, 10 EWS, 10 backward-class women and 1 ST — several cells in single figures before any district allocation.

Testbook

The number of stages in TRE 4.0 is unresolved, and it is the single biggest open question in this cycle. BPSC's own exam calendar, dated 14 August 2026, lists TRE 4.0 at serial 30 with 32,388 vacancies under the heading 2 PHASE EXAMS (PT + MAINS), and records the exam date as TBD with the remark that the date of the PT shall be published after the completion of the advertisement period. On that document, TRE 4.0 is a two-stage recruitment with a screening preliminary test.

BPSC Exam Calendar dated 14 August 2026 (official)

On 27 August 2026, nine days after Advertisement 14/2026 was issued, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that TRE 4.0 would be held in a single phase, scrapping the PT and Mains structure. The announcement followed a campaign by candidate representatives under the slogan One Exam, One Result. This is a state government statement rather than a BPSC order, and it directly contradicts the Commission's own calendar.

Testbook news report on the 27 August announcement (reported)

As of 22 September 2026, BPSC has published no corrigendum on the TRE 4.0 examination pattern. The Commission's notices page carries corrigenda for the 72nd CCE and notices on the Stenographer examination and the new fifth answer option, but nothing on TRE. The 14 August calendar still shows PT plus Mains and has not been revised. The unresolved pattern is the most plausible reason the application window was postponed for procedural changes, and candidates should expect the revised pattern and the reopened window to be announced together.

BPSC notices page, checked 22 September 2026 (official)

Economics carried the highest class 11-12 cut-off of the subjects compiled by Career Power from an earlier TRE round — about 73 for unreserved candidates, against roughly 63 for Computer Science and 41 for Chemistry. That ordering tracks the vacancy counts and is the single most useful planning fact on this page.

Career Power

BPSC issued Advertisement No. 14/2026 for the fourth Teacher Recruitment Examination on 18 August 2026 covering 32,388 posts, of which 16,101 are at the higher secondary level. The advertisement number, date and totals are reported identically across Career Power, Testbook, Adda247, Notifyhere and Physics Wallah.

Career Power

TRE 4 introduces a two-stage written examination with no interview — a 150-question preliminary of 2 hours followed by a 150-question main of 2 hours 30 minutes, with 0.33 marks deducted per wrong answer at both stages, as reported by Adda247.

Adda247

Applications were reported to open on 21 September 2026 after the originally advertised 1 September start was postponed. Notifyhere carries the revised start date; the last date, fee-payment cut-off and any correction window were unannounced as of 22 September 2026.

Notifyhere

A vacancy figure of 46,595 is circulating on job-alert aggregators for TRE 4.0. None of the aggregators carrying it cites an advertisement number or a date, and it is contradicted by both official BPSC documents that do carry a number: Advertisement 14/2026 of 18 August 2026 and the exam calendar of 14 August 2026, which state 32,388. Until BPSC publishes a corrigendum, 32,388 is the figure to plan against.

Economics is the one higher secondary subject whose content overlaps materially with Part II. Career Power describes General Studies as primary mathematics, general awareness, general science, the Indian national movement and geography, and the Indian economic development half of the class 11-12 Economics course covers much of the same ground on planning, liberalisation and human capital. An Economics candidate is therefore preparing 120 of the 150 questions from partly shared material, which is an advantage no other subject in this recruitment enjoys. Read the structure below as the pattern for the written examination, not as a settled number of stages. BPSC's calendar of 14 August 2026 places TRE 4.0 under two-phase PT plus Mains exams; the Chief Minister announced a single-phase exam on 27 August 2026; and BPSC has published no corrigendum resolving the two as of 22 September 2026. The question paper described here is the one candidates must prepare for either way, because a single-phase exam would use it and a two-phase exam would use it as the main paper.

This calendar is common to every subject in BPSC TRE 4 — Economics has no separate notification, application window or examination date. The December-January window and the mid-October confirmation are Adda247's expectation rather than a BPSC announcement, and Physics Wallah's notification page still shows the superseded 1 to 30 September window.

What this means for your preparation

Economics is the subject in this recruitment where the qualifying floor is least relevant. With 138 posts and a reported unreserved cut-off near 73 out of 150 in an earlier round, clearing 40 per cent does nothing; the merit line sits far above it. The mistake that follows is planning as though scoring well in Economics is the task, when the reported cut-off is only reachable by taking most of Part III and a clear majority of the 40 General Studies questions as well.

138 posts across every category

Physics Wallah, Testbook and Notifyhere all report 138 Economics posts at the higher secondary level, under one per cent of the 16,101 at that level and the smallest of the mainstream academic subjects in the table. Testbook's category split is roughly 58 unreserved, 21 BC, 18 SC, 14 EBC, 10 EWS, 10 backward-class women and a single ST post. Once those are distributed across Bihar's districts, many cells resolve to one or two seats. That is the context in which the district preference on the application form should be chosen, because a strong score in a crowded district can still miss while a lower score elsewhere succeeds.

The highest reported cut-off in the level

Career Power's compilation of previous-round class 11-12 cut-offs gives Economics an unreserved figure of about 73, the same for unreserved women, roughly 70 for EWS, 65 for BC, 62 for EBC and backward-class women, and 52 for SC. Chemistry on the same page sits near 41 and Computer Science near 63. The pattern is straightforward — the fewer the posts, the higher the line — and Economics has the fewest. Roughly 73 of 150 with a third of a mark lost per error implies about 85 correct answers out of 150 in practice. These are coaching-portal compilations from an earlier round, not BPSC's own cut-off PDF.

The +2 Economics course is the real syllabus

BPSC has issued no topic-wise Economics syllabus for TRE 4. BiharHelp reports the notification as saying subject papers follow SCERT and NCERT content, while eligibility requires a postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics or Business Economics per Adda247. That combination points at the class 11 and 12 course — statistics for economics, including index numbers, dispersion and correlation; introductory microeconomics, covering demand and elasticity, production and cost, market forms and price determination; introductory macroeconomics, covering national income aggregates, money and banking, income determination, the government budget and balance of payments; and Indian economic development, including the 1991 reforms, poverty, human capital and rural development.

Statistics and national income are the scoring block

Within that syllabus the numerically defined topics repay preparation best in an objective paper, because they produce unambiguous single-answer questions: index-number construction, mean deviation and standard deviation, correlation coefficients, the multiplier, the several national income identities and the distinction between GDP at market prices and NNP at factor cost. Theory topics such as market structures generate more debatable statement-based items. With 150 questions in 150 minutes, a candidate who can execute a national income conversion or a price-elasticity calculation in under a minute converts a disproportionate share of Part III, whereas one who relies on definitional recall alone will stall around the qualifying floor rather than the cut-off.

The Economics and Commerce eligibility boundary

Adda247's eligibility summary records that the Economics post accepts postgraduate degrees in Economics, Applied Economics or Business Economics, and that an M.Com in Applied Economics or Business Economics is not eligible for the Commerce post. Candidates holding those specialised commerce degrees therefore sit on a boundary the notification draws explicitly, and should read the degree-equivalence annexure of Advertisement No. 14/2026 rather than an aggregator summary before choosing a paper. Beyond the degree, classes 11-12 require B.Ed or a recognised integrated programme and a qualified Bihar STET Paper-II in the subject, with the age band running from 21 to 37, 40 or 42 by category.

Common questions

How many Economics posts are there in BPSC TRE 4 for classes 11-12?

Physics Wallah, Testbook and Notifyhere all report 138 Economics posts at the higher secondary level, out of 16,101 posts at that level in Advertisement No. 14/2026. That is the smallest count among the mainstream academic subjects in the published table, against 3,695 for Chemistry and 407 for Computer Science. Testbook's category split is roughly 58 unreserved, 21 BC, 18 SC, 14 EBC, 10 EWS, 10 backward-class women and 1 ST, so most reserved cells are in single or low double figures before district allocation.

What was the Economics cut-off in the previous BPSC TRE for class 11-12?

Career Power's cut-off compilation reports a class 11-12 Economics unreserved cut-off of about 73 from an earlier TRE round, with the same figure for unreserved women, about 70 for EWS, 65 for BC, 62 for EBC and backward-class women, and 52 for SC. That was the highest among the class 11-12 subjects on that page, above Computer Science at roughly 63 and Chemistry at roughly 41, which is consistent with Economics having the fewest posts. These are coaching-portal compilations rather than BPSC's own subject-wise cut-off PDF and will move with the vacancy count.

What is the syllabus for the BPSC TRE Higher Secondary Economics paper?

BPSC has not released a topic-wise Economics syllabus for TRE 4. BiharHelp reports the notification as saying subject papers follow SCERT and NCERT content, and eligibility requires a postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics or Business Economics. The practical topic list is therefore the class 11 and 12 course: statistics for economics, introductory microeconomics, introductory macroeconomics and Indian economic development. Any detailed breakdown circulating on coaching sites is reconstructed from those textbooks rather than issued by the commission, and should be treated as a study plan rather than a specification.

What is the exam pattern for BPSC TRE Higher Secondary Economics?

The main paper is 150 objective questions for 150 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes: 30 language questions that are qualifying at 30 per cent and add nothing to rank, 40 General Studies questions that do count, and 80 Economics questions. A 150-question preliminary of 2 hours precedes it as a screening stage, with no interview. Adda247 reports 0.33 marks deducted per wrong answer at both stages; Physics Wallah's page says 0.25, which is the one detail on which the published accounts of the pattern disagree.

Can a Business Economics or M.Com postgraduate apply for BPSC TRE Economics?

Adda247's eligibility summary records that the Economics post accepts postgraduate degrees in Economics, Applied Economics or Business Economics, and separately that an M.Com in Applied Economics or Business Economics is not eligible for the Commerce post. So those specialisations are directed toward Economics rather than Commerce. Because this is a clause that tends to be tested at document verification rather than at application, the degree-equivalence annexure of Advertisement No. 14/2026 on the BPSC site should be checked directly before the fee is paid.

Does the BPSC TRE 4 Economics paper have its own date or notification?

No. Every subject in TRE 4 shares one notification, one application window and one examination date, and only the 80-question subject section differs. Applications were reported to open on 21 September 2026 after the original 1 September start was postponed, with no closing date confirmed as of 22 September 2026. Adda247 expects the examination in December 2026 or January 2027 and the schedule to be notified around mid-October 2026, but BPSC had announced no date at the time of writing.
