Commerce-stream papers for classes 11-12 at a glance

This is the honest position and it matters more than any study tip on this page. BiharHelp's list of higher secondary subject options for TRE 4 names Business Studies, Entrepreneurship and Accountancy, and no plain Commerce paper; Physics Wallah's vacancy table does the same and states that Commerce does not appear as a separate category. BPSC's eligibility material nonetheless refers to a Commerce post requiring a master's in Commerce. Until the commission's own annexure is read, treat the post count for a single Commerce paper as unpublished. Read the structure below as the pattern for the written examination, not as a settled number of stages. BPSC's calendar of 14 August 2026 places TRE 4.0 under two-phase PT plus Mains exams; the Chief Minister announced a single-phase exam on 27 August 2026; and BPSC has published no corrigendum resolving the two as of 22 September 2026. The question paper described here is the one candidates must prepare for either way, because a single-phase exam would use it and a two-phase exam would use it as the main paper.

Dates and windows

This calendar is common to every subject in BPSC TRE 4 — the commerce-stream papers have no separate notification, application window or examination date. The December-January window and the mid-October confirmation are Adda247's expectation rather than a BPSC announcement, and Physics Wallah's notification page still shows the superseded 1 to 30 September window.

What this means for your preparation

The thing commerce candidates most often get wrong in this recruitment is the question they are answering. There is no single Commerce paper to prepare for at the higher secondary level in TRE 4 as the vacancy table stands; there are three small, distinct papers — Business Studies, Accountancy and Entrepreneurship — and the choice made on the application form fixes which one is sat. Choosing on habit rather than on the post count and the degree restriction is how a commerce postgraduate ends up competing in the wrong queue.

Three papers, 257 posts, one choice

Physics Wallah's higher secondary breakdown gives Business Studies 133 posts, Accountancy 66 and Entrepreneurship 58. Together that is 257 of 16,101 higher secondary posts, about one and a half per cent, against Chemistry's 3,695 on the same table. The three are not interchangeable at the form stage, and the smallest of them, Entrepreneurship at 58 posts, will divide further by category and district into single figures per cell. Anyone eligible for more than one should weigh which paper they can actually score in against how thin the reserved-category allocation becomes once 58 or 66 posts are split, rather than defaulting to the paper their degree is named after.

The M.Com restriction that disqualifies people

Adda247's eligibility summary records that the Commerce post requires a master's degree in Commerce and that an M.Com in Applied Economics or Business Economics is not eligible for it. The same page records the mirror rule on the other side: the Economics post accepts Economics, Applied Economics and Business Economics postgraduates. A candidate holding an M.Com with an Applied or Business Economics specialisation therefore sits in the gap between the two doors and should read the degree-equivalence annexure of Advertisement No. 14/2026 line by line before paying a fee, because this is exactly the kind of rule that surfaces at document verification rather than at application.

No published commerce syllabus, and what follows

BPSC has not issued a topic-wise syllabus for Business Studies, Accountancy or Entrepreneurship in TRE 4. BiharHelp reports the notification as saying subject papers are based on SCERT and NCERT content. For these three that points squarely at the Bihar Board and NCERT class 11 and 12 books — partnership and company accounts, financial statements, cash flow and ratio analysis for Accountancy; principles of management, business environment, marketing, finance and consumer protection for Business Studies; the entrepreneurial process, business opportunity identification, resource mobilisation and enterprise growth for Entrepreneurship. Treat any coaching topic list as reconstruction from the textbooks, not as a published BPSC syllabus.

No commerce cut-off exists to plan against

Career Power's compilation of previous-round class 11-12 cut-offs carries figures for Chemistry, Economics and Computer Science but explicitly has no Accountancy or Business Studies data, and Career Power's TRE 3 result coverage lists only Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, Botany and Zoology as the class 11-12 subjects that produced results. So there is no historical commerce benchmark in the public record. What can be planned against are the qualifying floors BiharHelp reports — 40 per cent general, 36.5 BC, 34 EBC and 32 for SC, ST, women and persons with benchmark disabilities — plus the separate 30 per cent in the language section. With post counts this small, the merit line will sit far above those floors.

The 40 General Studies questions decide more here

Only 80 of the 150 main-paper questions are subject questions. Part I's 30 language questions are qualifying and add nothing to rank; Part II's 40 General Studies questions do count. In a paper where 257 posts are chased across three small subjects, the merit order is compressed and the 40 General Studies marks become disproportionately decisive, because almost every serious commerce candidate will be strong on accounts or management fundamentals. Career Power describes that section as primary mathematics, general awareness, general science, the Indian national movement and geography — a syllabus a commerce graduate is least likely to have touched since school and most likely to leave until the end.

Is there a Commerce paper in BPSC TRE 4 for classes 11-12?

Not as a named line in the published vacancy table.
