Checked 7 October 2026. The vacancy numbers are those of the ESSE 2025 Information Bulletin (19 Sep 2025) and the bulletin calls them tentative: they include anticipated vacancies and may increase or decrease. NESTS has published no state-wise table. A new ESSE notification would replace every figure here; none had been announced on the NESTS site on 7 October 2026.
The ESSE 2025 notification (19 September 2025) listed 3,962 Trained Graduate Teacher posts for Eklavya Model Residential Schools: 2,550 in six core subjects, 223 in 14 regional languages and 1,189 in Music, Art, PET (Male and Female) and Librarian. TGT Computer Science is the largest single line at 550 posts; the language line with most posts is Santhali at 71. These are the Information Bulletin's numbers, and the bulletin itself calls them tentative. They cover actual and anticipated vacancies and may go up or down. NESTS published no state-wise or school-wise table, so any page that shows one needs its source checked. Below: every line by category, the PwBD sub-quotas, how the numbers changed from the 2023 TGT cycle, and a lookup that turns a line and category into posts, the stated selection ratios and the printed Tier-I cut-off.
All four figures are printed in the bulletin; the three line totals add to 3,962, which we checked.
ProSyllabus is an independent study site. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), the Central Board of Secondary Education or the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Every rule below is quoted or summarised from their published documents, and every sum, ratio or date calculation is labelled as our own arithmetic. We print no candidate names or roll numbers.
What the ESSE 2025 notification covered
ESSE stands for EMRS Staff Selection Exam. The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, invited applications for eight kinds of post at once, and TGT is a little over half of them. The examination agency named in the result notices is the Central Board of Secondary Education. Because every post in the table sits in one notification, a candidate could apply for more than one post but for only one TGT subject, and for only one PGT subject, the bulletin says.
| Post | Vacancies (printed) | Share of 7,267 (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|
| Principal | 225 | 3.1% |
| PGT | 1,460 | 20.1% |
| TGT | 3,962 | 54.5% |
| Female Staff Nurse | 550 | 7.6% |
| Hostel Warden | 635 | 8.7% |
| Accountant | 61 | 0.8% |
| Junior Secretariat Assistant | 228 | 3.1% |
| Lab Attendant | 146 | 2.0% |
| Total | 7,267 | 100% |
TGT core subjects: posts by category
The six core subjects are the ones with a common Tier-I and a subject paper in Tier-II. The table is the bulletin's, column for column. UR means unreserved, EWS economically weaker section, OBC is non-creamy-layer, and the last four columns (VI visually impaired, HI hearing impaired, LD locomotor disability, Others) are PwBD sub-quotas. Every row's five category columns add up to its total, which means the PwBD columns are reservations inside those totals, not extra posts (our reading of the arithmetic; the bulletin calls them horizontal reservation).
| Subject | Total | UR | EWS | OBC | SC | ST | VI / HI / LD / Others |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hindi | 424 | 174 | 42 | 114 | 63 | 31 | 4 / 4 / 4 / 5 |
| English | 395 | 162 | 39 | 106 | 59 | 29 | 4 / 4 / 4 / 4 |
| Mathematics | 381 | 156 | 38 | 102 | 57 | 28 | 4 / 4 / 4 / 3 |
| Social Studies | 392 | 161 | 39 | 105 | 58 | 29 | 4 / 4 / 4 / 4 |
| Science | 408 | 167 | 40 | 110 | 61 | 30 | 4 / 4 / 4 / 4 |
| Computer Science | 550 | 224 | 55 | 148 | 82 | 41 | 6 / 5 / 5 / 6 |
| Core total | 2,550 | 1044 | 253 | 685 | 380 | 188 | 26 / 25 / 25 / 26 |
Printed totals from the bulletin, sorted by size. Computer Science alone is 13.9% of all TGT posts (our arithmetic: 550 of 3,962).
Two features stand out. First, Computer Science has more posts than any other subject, 550, although it is a TGT line with its own, different degree rules: no B.Ed. and no CTET are listed for it. Second, the five classic school subjects are close to each other, between 381 (Mathematics) and 424 (Hindi). Each of the five has between 182 and 305 fewer posts than in the 2023 cycle, as the comparison below shows (our arithmetic).
TGT Regional Language: 14 languages, 223 posts
Regional Language posts are posted to a state whose language they teach, and the exam for them differs in one way: the Domain Knowledge part of Tier-I is in the regional language concerned. Two languages, Santhali (71) and Odiya (57), account for more than half of all 223 posts (128, which is 57.4%, our arithmetic). Six languages have three posts or fewer, so competition there is for between one and three seats, and the category columns show it: in most small lines every post is UR.
| Language | Total | UR | EWS | OBC | SC | ST | VI / HI / LD / Others |

There is no Marathi or Sanskrit TGT line in 2025
The 2023 TGT bulletin had a Sanskrit line of 358 posts and a Marathi line of 52 (third-language posts). The 2025 bulletin lists neither, although Marathi remains one of the 20 languages a candidate may pick for the language-competency part. If a page lists TGT Sanskrit among the 2025 posts, ask where the number came from: it is not in the notification we read.
Music, Art, PET and Librarian: the miscellaneous TGT lines
These five lines are advertised under the TGT heading as "Miscellaneous Category of Teachers". They are paid in different levels (Level 6 for Music, Art and PET, Level 7 for Librarian) and have their own degrees and syllabi, which the salary and eligibility guides cover. The posts are numerous: PET (Female) at 299 is about 1.7 times PET (Male) at 173, which fits the bulletin's stated policy of 20% to 60% women staff in each school, but the bulletin does not tie the two numbers together, so that link is our inference.
| Line | Total | UR | EWS | OBC | SC | ST | VI / HI / LD / Others |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Music | 314 | 129 | 31 | 84 | 47 | 23 | 4 / 0 / 5 / 4 |
| Art | 279 | 116 | 27 | 75 | 41 | 20 | 3 / 2 / 3 / 3 |
| PET (Male) | 173 | 73 | 17 | 46 | 25 | 12 | 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 |
| PET (Female) | 299 | 124 | 29 | 80 | 44 | 22 | 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 |
| Librarian | 124 | 52 | 12 | 33 | 18 | 9 | 0 / 2 / 1 / 2 |
| Total | 1,189 | 494 | 116 | 318 | 175 | 86 | 7 / 4 / 9 / 9 |
All TGT posts by category
Adding the three groups gives the category split of all 3,962 posts. The shares are our arithmetic and are close to, but not exactly, the headline reservation percentages, because each line is rounded on its own.
| Category | TGT posts (our sum of the printed rows) | Share of 3,962 | Core / Regional / Misc |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 1,652 | 41.7% | 1044 / 114 / 494 |
| EWS | 386 | 9.7% | 253 / 17 / 116 |
| OBC (NCL) | 1,056 | 26.7% | 685 / 53 / 318 |
| SC | 582 | 14.7% | 380 / 27 / 175 |
| ST | 286 | 7.2% | 188 / 12 / 86 |
| All categories | 3,962 | 100% | 2550 / 223 / 1189 |
PwBD sub-quotas total 140: 35 visually impaired, 32 hearing impaired, 36 locomotor and 37 in the Others column (our sum; the bulletin prints the lines, not this total). The bulletin lists the functional requirements and suitable disability categories for each TGT line, and a notice of 29 September 2025 added two sub-categories, SI and SD, under locomotor disability in the application portal.
Is there a state-wise vacancy list?
Not in anything NESTS published for this cycle. The bulletin gives totals by subject and category only, and says candidates may be posted anywhere in India on first appointment, that a request for change of station will not be entertained, and that the posting is at NESTS discretion. A person selected has to learn the local language of the place of posting within probation and qualify a language proficiency test conducted by NESTS. The only place where geography shows through is the Regional Language table, because a language post goes where the language is taught. For a core subject such as Mathematics or Computer Science, the 381 or 550 posts are one national pool.
| What you may want | What NESTS published | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Posts in my state | No state table in the bulletin or on the ESSE-2025 notice page | Treat core-subject posts as one national pool; ask for a source on any state table |
| Choice of school | Posting at the sole discretion of NESTS; change of station not entertained | Plan for posting anywhere in India |
| Regional language posts | Language-wise totals for 14 languages | Use the language table above; the notice names no state |
| Language skill after joining | Learn the local language and qualify a proficiency test within probation | Read the posting rules in the selection-stages guide |
How the numbers changed from the 2023 TGT cycle
NESTS ran a separate TGT and Hostel Warden recruitment in 2023 (notification of 18 July 2023) with 5,660 TGT posts. The 2025 notification has 3,962, which is 1,698 fewer (30.0% fewer, our arithmetic). The drop is not even: Hindi, English, Maths, Social Studies and Science each lost between 30% and 45% of their posts, Librarian lost two thirds, and Computer Science appeared for the first time with 550.
| Line | 2023 posts | 2025 posts | Change | Change % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hindi | 606 | 424 | -182 | -30.0% |
| English | 671 | 395 | -276 | -41.1% |
| Mathematics | 686 | 381 | -305 | -44.5% |
| Social Studies | 670 | 392 | -278 | -41.5% |
| Science | 678 | 408 | -270 | -39.8% |
| Music | 320 | 314 | -6 | -1.9% |
| Art | 342 | 279 | -63 | -18.4% |
| PET (Male) | 321 | 173 | -148 | -46.1% |
| PET (Female) | 345 | 299 | -46 | -13.3% |
| Librarian | 369 | 124 | -245 | -66.4% |
| Computer Science | no line | 550 | new | n/a |
| Regional or third language, all | 652 | 223 | -429 | -65.8% |
| All TGT | 5,660 | 3,962 | -1698 | -30.0% |
The older Recruitment Rules copy (listed 5 July 2023) says a TGT post is 12 per school with a total of 8,880 across 740 schools. Against that sanctioned strength, the 3,962 posts are 44.6% (our arithmetic). The rules copy is three years old and we cannot tell from it how many of the 8,880 are filled, so read it as the size of the cadre, not as a count of vacancies.
EMRS TGT vacancy lookup
Pick a line and a category. The tool reads the printed vacancy table above and the printed Tier-I cut-off figures (set out in the result and cut-off guide) and applies the bulletin's stated selection ratios. It does not know how many people applied, because NESTS has not published that.
The posts and cut-offs are the printed figures. The ceilings use the bulletin's 1:10 (Tier-II) and 1:3 (document verification) ratios against vacancies; whether NESTS applied them per category or per subject is not stated. Treat them as upper bounds, not forecasts.
What the posts do and do not tell you about your chances
A post count is half of a competition; the other half is how many people applied, which NESTS has not published for ESSE 2025 and which we will not guess. What the numbers do tell you is the scale of the next two stages. The bulletin says candidates are shortlisted for Tier-II in the ratio 1:10 against the notified vacancies and called for document verification in the ratio 1:3. On the core subjects alone that means up to 25,500 Tier-II seats and 7,650 document-verification places (our arithmetic), and on all TGT lines up to 39,620 and 11,886. The Tier-I cut-offs in the result and cut-off guide are the real measure of how tight each line was.
Two more things move the numbers. The bulletin reserves the right to fill all, part or none of the posts and says no claim will be entertained for any variation, so a smaller final selection is possible. And the posts count anticipated retirements and promotions, so the number actually vacant on a given day is lower. For eligibility, see the eligibility guide; for what the exam tests, the pattern and syllabus guide; for pay, the salary guide.
How many TGT vacancies are there in EMRS?
The ESSE 2025 notification of 19 September 2025 lists 3,962 TGT posts: 2,550 in six core subjects, 223 in 14 regional languages and 1,189 in Music, Art, PET and Librarian. The bulletin calls the numbers tentative.
How many EMRS TGT Computer Science vacancies are there?
550, the largest TGT line: 224 UR, 55 EWS, 148 OBC, 82 SC and 41 ST, with PwBD sub-quotas of 6, 5, 5 and 6. Its eligibility rules differ from the other TGT subjects (no B.Ed. or CTET is listed).
Is there a state-wise EMRS TGT vacancy list?
No. The bulletin gives subject and category totals only, and says candidates can be posted anywhere in India. Only the Regional Language lines point to places, through the language.
Which regional languages have TGT vacancies?
Assamese 8, Bodo 2, Bengali 8, Garo 1, Gujarati 2, Kannada 6, Khasi 3, Malayalam 2, Manipuri 11, Mizo 6, Odiya 57, Santhali 71, Telugu 44 and Urdu 2, a total of 223.
How many TGT posts are reserved for SC, ST and OBC?
By our sum of the printed rows: 582 SC, 286 ST and 1,056 OBC, against 1,652 UR and 386 EWS. PwBD sub-quotas are inside these figures.
Why are there fewer TGT posts than in 2023?
The 2023 TGT notification had 5,660 posts and the 2025 one has 3,962. The bulletin gives no reason; the five classic subjects each lost between 30% and 45%, and Computer Science was added as a new line.
Are Sanskrit TGT posts available in ESSE 2025?
Not in the notification we read. The 2023 TGT bulletin had 358 Sanskrit posts; the 2025 Regional Language table has no Sanskrit line.
