ARPIT 2026: The Comprehensive Faculty Guide
Professional Development & Career Advancement via SWAYAM
What is the ARPIT Programme?
Launched by the Ministry of Education, the Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching (ARPIT) is a unique initiative aimed at the professional development of 1.5 million higher education faculty. Using the SWAYAM MOOCs platform, ARPIT offers discipline-specific refresher courses that are recognized by the UGC as equivalent to a traditional refresher course for Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions.
The "Two-Tier" Structure
1. Learning Phase (SWAYAM): A 40-hour module consisting of 20 hours of video and 20 hours of reading material. You must complete the course, assignments, and quizzes on the SWAYAM portal.
2. Assessment Phase (NTA): A terminal Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted by the National Testing Agency. Passing this exam is mandatory to receive the final certificate.
2. Assessment Phase (NTA): A terminal Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted by the National Testing Agency. Passing this exam is mandatory to receive the final certificate.

Eligibility & Registration Process
1
Faculty Learners: Must be currently working in an Indian Higher Education Institution. Valid ID/Appointment letter required. (Usually no exam fee).
2
Non-Faculty Learners: Open to anyone wishing to enhance their knowledge. A nominal fee (approx. ₹1000) is charged.
3
Enrollment: First, enroll in the specific course on the SWAYAM website. Registration for the NTA exam happens later on a separate portal (arpit.nta.nic.in).
Exam Day Protocol & Dress Code
Since the NTA conducts this exam, standard security measures apply:
- Documents: Admit card (with undertaking), a valid government ID (Aadhaar/PAN), and one passport-size photo.
- Dress Code: Simple, light-colored clothing. Avoid clothes with many pockets or large buttons. No metallic jewelry.
- Footwear: Slippers or sandals with low soles. Shoes are generally discouraged and may be searched.
Expert Tip for Success:
Focus heavily on the SWAYAM weekly assignments. The final NTA exam questions are often derived from the core concepts discussed in the video modules and the self-assessment questions provided during the course weeks.
