Why a region gives its style

Much of Level 2 is grapes and places: why a Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough tastes different from one from Sancerre, or why Mendoza Malbec keeps its freshness. Where it helps, an explanation ends with a small table that sets the regions side by side: where, why, and the style in the glass. Here is one for Sauvignon Blanc, like the table on a free-sample question:

Region or wineWhyStyle in the glass
MarlboroughSunny days, cool nightsPronounced gooseberry, passion fruit, green pepper
Sancerre, Pouilly-FuméCool continental climateGreen fruit and citrus, sometimes stony or smoky notes
Pessac-LéognanModerate; blended with Semillon, oakedFuller body, citrus, toast

Questions

Are these real WSET exam questions?

No. WSET does not release past papers for the Level 2 Award in Wines, and every question here is our own, written on the learning outcomes of the Level 2 specification. None comes from a WSET exam, WSET's study materials or its sample questions.

Is this made or endorsed by WSET?

No. It is independent practice by ProSyllabus and is not affiliated with, made, endorsed or reviewed by WSET.

Does it replace the course?

No. The Level 2 Award is taken through a WSET Approved Programme Provider, and the course and its study materials remain your main source. This is timed practice to check what you know, learning outcome by learning outcome, before the exam.

Will this make me pass?

We do not claim that it will. It gives you timed practice in the exam's format, a score by learning outcome after each test, and the reason behind every answer, so you can see what to revise.

What do I get?

3 mock exams of 50 questions with a 60-minute clock and 6 learning-outcome sets containing 148 questions in total: 301 questions including the free sample of 3, in the full test player with a question palette and mark for review. After each test: your score, your score and time per question by learning outcome next to its exam weight, and the explanation of every answer. Retake any test as often as you like.

How do I pay and get access?

One payment by card (or PayPal where offered), handled by our payment provider. In the United Kingdom, the United States, the euro area, Australia and Canada the price is charged in your own currency. Before you pay, the checkout shows the exact amount and the currency you will be charged in.
