WPI's Need-to-Know Criteria state no time limit or passing score, so our 120 minutes (1.2 minutes a question) is a pace, not a rule. Ask your certifying authority for your exam's rules. A practice score is a guide, not a prediction of your result.

The shares are the ones in WPI's 2025 Need-to-Know Criteria, Water Treatment Operator Class II, read 23 October 2026. WPI says an exam may also include up to 10 extra unscored pretest questions; this practice exam has none.

What the questions cover

  • Treatment Process: jar test results, polymers, filter performance, membranes, disinfection and CT, chloramines, disinfection by-products, fluoride, corrosion control chemicals such as phosphates
  • Laboratory Analysis: alkalinity relationships, chlorine tests, quality control, bacteria, and corrosion control such as the Langelier Saturation Index
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: pumps and pump curves, variable frequency drives, valves and backflow, flow meters, chlorine feed, standby power, preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Source Water Characteristics: aquifers, wells and drawdown, reservoirs and stratification, algae and taste and odor, managing stored water release
  • Security, Safety, and Administrative Procedures: public notification, confined spaces, chemical storage, emergency plans, records, procurement and scheduling

The calculation questions

10 of the 100 questions are calculations. WPI says its standardized exams include a Formula/Conversion Table; these questions use the constants and formulas of the 2024 table that WPI publishes: 8.34 lb/gal, 7.48 gal/ft3, 694 gpm per MGD, 1,440 min/day, 0.433 psi per foot of water and so on. Keep a copy open while you practise. For more of them, try the operator math drill.

Which exam applies to you

Each certifying authority chooses which exams it gives, and not every program uses WPI's standardized exams. This practice exam follows WPI's Need-to-Know Criteria; ask your certifying authority which exam, classes and rules apply to you. Our water treatment operator exam guide sets out what WPI's Class I to IV exams cover and the exam-day rules WPI publishes.

Before you buy

What do I get?

One full practice exam of 100 questions, run in the full test player with a 120-minute clock. When you submit, you see your score by content area and the reason behind every answer. Retake it as often as you like.

Are these real WPI exam questions?

No. Every question here is original, written by us to the content areas WPI publishes. WPI's exam questions are WPI's copyright, and we do not claim to have any.

How were the answers checked?

Every question was answered again, independently and without our answer key. A question went in only when those answers matched ours and nobody raised an objection to it. Calculation answers are computed by script.

Is this the current format?

It follows WPI's 2025 Need-to-Know Criteria for Water Treatment Operator Class II: 100 scored questions in the content shares above. Last checked 23 October 2026. Your certifying authority decides which exam you sit, so check with it before your test day.

Is it official?

No. This is independent practice by ProSyllabus, not produced, endorsed or checked by Water Professionals International or by any state certifying authority.

How do I pay and get access?

One payment by card (or PayPal where offered), handled by our payment provider. In the United States the price is charged in US dollars; in other countries in your own currency where we support it, otherwise in Indian rupees with the local figure shown as an estimate. Access opens on this device straight after payment. Sign in afterwards to keep it on your account. Purchase policy.
