Exam schedule
Test facts from careers.state.gov, the State Department's online practice FSOT and Pearson VUE's FSOT page, read 13 October 2026. The State Department publishes no past papers; topic counts are our tally of its practice test. Check careers.state.gov for every later notice.
What went into these ten pages
Written from the primary documents, not from other people's notes:
- careers.state.gov: "Instructions to the Online Practice FSOT" and the online practice test (50 + 45 + 30 questions in 35 + 35 + 45 minutes), read 13 October 2026.
- Pearson VUE's FSOT page (updated 25 September 2026): eligibility, registration and the testing windows.
- The Constitution of the United States, the War Powers Resolution (1973) and the UN Charter for the content pages.
- Every point checked by two independent AI reviewers; points they flagged were rewritten until both passed them.
The State Department publishes no past papers and no topic weights. The topic counts in the kit are our own tally of its practice test and are labelled as such. Nothing in the kit depends on who holds an office today.
Questions
Is it only for the last week before the exam?
No. It is a cheatsheet of the important points, formulas and facts. Keep it on your phone and use it all through your preparation: before a mock, when a topic slips, and for one full read in the final days.
How do I get it after paying?
It's yours the moment the payment clears, and you come straight back to this page with Download and Read buttons. It stays in your ProSyllabus account.
Will the kit be updated after I buy it?
Yes. We regularly correct and improve our kits as syllabi, notifications and exam patterns change. Each time you download from this page you get the latest version, at no extra cost — so check back here from time to time, and download it again before your exam.
Can I pay with UPI?
Yes — UPI, cards or netbanking on a secure payment page. If you already have ProSyllabus credits, they are used instead and nothing is charged.
Can I see it before I buy?
Yes. Page 1 is on this page in full, free. It is the same page you would get.
Does it follow the revised test?
Yes. It follows the FSOT as revised in October 2025: Job Knowledge on four strands, English Usage and Comprehension, and Logical Reasoning. There is no essay or Situational Judgment content.
Does it contain real FSOT questions?
No. The self-test and the examples are our own. The kit points you to the State Department's free practice test and tells you how to use it.
Where do the topic counts come from?
From our tally of the State Department's own online practice test. The Department publishes no past papers and no official weights, and the kit says so.
Who can take the FSOT?
US citizens aged 20 to 59 at registration, once in any 12-month period. Check Pearson VUE's FSOT page for the current rules and dates.
Is this an official document?
No. It is a revision kit compiled by ProSyllabus from the State Department's public pages and standard sources. Always check careers.state.gov.
What does this kit cover?
Since October 2025 the FSOT has no essay, no Situational Judgment and no pass mark, and Job Knowledge covers four strands only. This kit follows that test: US government, history and society; world history and geography; economics; math and statistics, in the proportions of the State Department's 50-question practice section. Then the 14 sentence rules, paragraph ordering and reading comprehension for English, and a method for each Logical Reasoning question type. It ends with a timed 24-question self-test and a two-week plan.
