Independent practice for the Fast Stream Assessment Centre

Practise the FSAC Personal Development Conversation

The Personal Development Conversation is a 30-minute, one-to-one structured discussion with an assessor. The official guide says it includes forward-looking questions about your talents and what energises you, behavioural questions about how you acted in past situations, personal examples from work, education, volunteering or hobbies, and self-reflection on your strengths, your areas for development and what interests you about the Fast Stream. It is assessed on three dimensions: Relate, Adapt and Strive. This coach first interviews you about your own life and turns your answers into a private story bank, then runs practice conversations against a 30-minute clock and tells you which story you used for each main question and whether it fitted. How it works

  1. The interview. One area at a time: what you enjoy and do well, a plan that changed, feedback you acted on, a setback, working with others, learning something quickly, keeping going, what you are still working on, and why the Fast Stream. If an answer leaves out what you did, what happened or what you learned, you may be asked one follow-up question.
  2. Your story bank. Your answers are turned into up to 6 short draft stories, each tagged Relate, Adapt or Strive. Stories are drafted from your answers only, and every story kept must quote something you actually said; missing parts are listed for you to add. Check your drafts, edit them, add your own, and download or print them.
  3. The practice conversation. A 30-minute clock and 7 planned main questions (more, up to 10, if time allows): forward-looking first, then behavioural and self-reflection, and a question about the Fast Stream last, with follow-up questions on what you say. Answer by typing or out loud.
  4. Your report. Practice scores on Relate, Adapt and Strive, and for each main question the story you used, whether it fitted the question, and which story from your bank would have fitted better, with quotes from your own words.

Before you start

Is this the real conversation?

No. The 30-minute clock, the kinds of question and the three dimensions are based on the official Fast Stream Assessment Centre guide. The questions are our own practice questions, not official ones, and the scores use our own practice rubric, built on the official description of each dimension. They are not an official score.

Should I learn my stories by heart?

No. The official guide says you do not need to memorise answers and that the best preparation is self-reflection. The story bank is a set of notes to remind you of your own examples, so that you can talk about them naturally when a question calls for one.

Why is Think not marked?

The official guide says this conversation is assessed on three dimensions, Relate, Adapt and Strive, so the report marks those three only.

Who asks the questions?

The main questions come from our own bank of practice questions. A computer model decides whether to ask a follow-up, at most two for each main question, and is instructed not to coach or score you during the conversation. It does not see your story bank, just as the official guide says assessors have limited information about you.

Who can see my story bank?

Only you. It is used to write your report, so that the report can say which of your stories you used. It is deleted if you delete your account. If you speak your answers, they are transcribed by a speech-to-text service and the audio is not stored; we keep the text only.

What does the report not judge?

It assesses your typed or transcribed answers and uses your story bank to match your examples. It does not judge eye contact, body language, tone of voice, accent, pronunciation or how you look on camera.

How do I pay?
