NHS GMTS Future Potential Assessment Practice

Stage 1 of the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme is the Future Potential Assessment: online, about 45 minutes, not time limited, and every candidate gets a feedback report. The Scheme asks for the right values and points you to the six NHS values. This practice gives you 76 work scenarios of our own, set on placements across all five specialisms, each built on one of those values. Choose the most effective response, read why it beats the others, and see your score by value. Start with 4 scenarios free.

Stage 1 and the stages after it, summarised from the Scheme’s own site

  • Stage 1, Future Potential Assessment: online, approximately 45 minutes, not time limited. You can practise each question type before you start, and every candidate receives a feedback report.
  • What it looks for: the Scheme says its process assesses your strengths and your potential to become a future NHS leader with the right values and motivation, not your degree subject or university.
  • The NHS values: the Scheme points applicants to the six values in the NHS Constitution for England, the values our scenarios are built on.
  • Stage 2, NHS GMTS Alignment Assessment: about 60 minutes with timed video responses, which the Scheme’s team reviews by hand.
  • Stage 3, Virtual Assessment Centre: a half day of several exercises; for 2027 entry, the half-day Virtual Assessment Centres start in January 2027 and run through February. The Scheme lists three outcomes: an offer, the reserve list, or unsuccessful.
  • Pay: a starting salary of £31,276, with the opportunity to increase to £33,681 after 12 months.

Checked on 1 November 2026 on the Scheme’s apply page, its About page and the NHS Constitution for England.

Before you buy

What do I get?

76 work scenarios of our own: 4 free scenarios, 4 practice sets of 12 (two on each NHS value) and a full run of 24 (four on each value) with a 45-minute practice clock. Each scenario has four responses; you choose the most effective one. Every answer is explained, including what is wrong with the other responses, and your result shows your score by value and your time per scenario. Resit any set as often as you like.

Are these the real Future Potential Assessment questions?

No. The Scheme does not publish its Stage 1 question types. Our scenarios are original practice written around the six NHS values that the Scheme points applicants to; none is an official assessment item. The NHS has not written or endorsed them.

When will I use this?

Applications for 2027 entry have closed. Practise now if you are in the 2027 process, or ahead of the next intake: the Scheme publishes its dates on graduates.nhs.uk.

Does it cover the video interview and assessment centre?

Not this practice. The NHS GMTS Video Interview + Virtual Assessment Centre Pack provides practice for Stages 2 and 3, and NHS GMTS Complete includes both for less than buying them separately.

How do I pay and get access?

One payment, handled by our payment provider, in your local currency where we can. Access opens on this device straight after payment. Sign in afterwards to keep it on your account. Access does not expire.
