NAV CANADA In-Person Test Practice
NAV CANADA says its in-person test takes about six hours and evaluates memory, working speed, spatial visualization, thinking and reasoning, attention, information processing and simple math. This pack gives you timed practice for six of those seven abilities, a 60-question long run, and interview and situational questions on the qualities NAV CANADA’s postings list. There is no memory set: our test player cannot hide a question after a study period.
The tests
The free sample has 4 questions and runs in the same test player as the full sets. Each ability set is 30 questions against a clock; the working-speed set is 30 quick questions in 15 minutes; the long run is 60 mixed questions in 60 minutes. The clocks are our own practice pace. NAV CANADA's pages do not state its tests' question types or counts.

Your practice scores, set by set
Your last score on each set, side by side, so you can choose what to practise next. Every result page also breaks your score down by ability, question type or competency and shows the reasoning behind every answer.
A score here is your score on our questions. It is not a NAV CANADA result and does not predict one.
What is inside
| Set | What the questions practise | Questions | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple math | Speed, distance and time, climb and descent times, the 24-hour clock, rates, percentages and mental arithmetic. No calculator. | 30 | 20 |
| Spatial visualization | Headings after turns, the shorter turn, directions on a map, following a route, which aircraft is flying at a beacon, and shapes turned on the page, with our own diagrams. | 30 | 20 |
| Thinking and reasoning | Landing-order puzzles, number series, letter codes, applying a stated set of rules, and which conclusion must be true. | 30 | 30 |
| Information processing and attention | Reading a departure list quickly, counting with two conditions, checking read-backs against a list, scanning codes and spotting a repeat. | 30 | 25 |
| Working speed | Quick math and checking questions against a short clock. | 30 | 15 |
| Long timed run | Math, spatial, reasoning and information questions mixed, for keeping your concentration over a longer session. It does not reproduce NAV CANADA’s six-hour test. | 60 | 60 |
| Assessment-centre interview and situations | Multiple-choice questions in which you choose the response that best reflects clear communication, memorization, problem-solving and decision-making, teamwork or resilience under pressure, plus questions on talking about your experience and motivation. They practise judging responses; they do not test your memory or measure your actual communication, teamwork or performance under pressure. | 40 | 30 |
| Total | All sets and the free sample of 4 | 254 |
NAV CANADA also lists memory among the abilities its in-person test evaluates. We do not have a memory set: our test player cannot hide a question after a study period. The working-speed set and the long run use our own clocks; These clocks describe our practice sets, not NAV CANADA’s test timing.
The interview set
NAV CANADA's air traffic controller postings list these qualities among the basic requirements:
- Clear verbal communication skills
- Good memorization skills
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- A strong commitment to teamwork
- A high level of resilience and an ability to perform under pressure
Each multiple-choice item asks you to choose the best response to a situation linked to one of these qualities, or the best way to talk about your experience and your interest in air traffic control, which NAV CANADA says you should be ready to discuss at the assessment centre. The explanation says why the best response is best and what the other choices miss. These items practise judging responses; they do not measure your actual communication, memory, teamwork or performance under pressure.
The selection process, as NAV CANADA describes it
| Stage | What NAV CANADA says | If unsuccessful, reapply after |
|---|---|---|
| Online assessment | Sent by email to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements. Timed, about 30 minutes, done from anywhere with internet; NAV CANADA recommends a desktop or laptop computer, not a phone or tablet. | 1 year after the testing date |
| In-person test | About six hours, typically at an area control centre. It evaluates core cognitive abilities including memory, working speed, spatial visualization, thinking and reasoning, attention, information processing and simple math. NAV CANADA sends candidates a link to a training platform to help them prepare. Successful candidates are invited to a 15-minute pre-screening interview the same day. | 2 years after the testing date |
| Assessment centre | A half day of group and individual exercises and an interview designed to assess skills, abilities and attitudes. Be ready to discuss your academic and work experience and your interest in air traffic control. | 3 years after the assessment date |
| Language testing and selection | Language testing by phone with a third-party company where needed; then an offer before the course start date, subject to medical, licensing, security clearance and drug testing (including cannabis). | – |
NAV CANADA's careers page asks that, at the time of application, you are 18 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. It also asks that you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, meet the language requirements (fluent English for all regions, and fluent English and French for the Montreal Flight Information Region, including the National Capital Region), are willing to relocate for training or work, and are available to start full-time training within 18 months of applying. Before employment you must meet Transport Canada's medical requirements, complete a security check and an initial drug screening test, including cannabis; after hiring, background-check requirements and NAV CANADA's Drug and Alcohol policy continue to apply. Passing one stage does not guarantee an invitation to the next.

Questions
Are these the real NAV CANADA test questions?
No. Every question is our own. The NAV CANADA pages cited here give no test questions or detailed formats, and nothing here reproduces or claims to resemble its tests or the training platform it sends candidates.
Is this made or recommended by NAV CANADA?
No. It is independent practice by ProSyllabus and is not affiliated with NAV CANADA. NAV CANADA sends candidates a link to a training platform to prepare for the in-person test; use it.
What does NAV CANADA test?
Its selection page says the in-person test evaluates core cognitive abilities including memory, working speed, spatial visualization, thinking and reasoning, attention, information processing and simple math. Before it comes a timed online assessment of about 30 minutes. Candidates successful at the in-person test are invited to a 15-minute pre-screening interview the same day. A later half-day assessment centre has group and individual exercises and an interview. Passing a stage does not guarantee an invitation to the next.
Will this make me pass?
We do not claim that it will. It gives you timed practice for abilities NAV CANADA lists, a side-by-side overview of your last scores on each set, and the reasoning behind every answer, so you can see what to work on.
What do I get?
4 timed ability sets of 30 questions (simple math; spatial visualization; thinking and reasoning; information processing and attention), a working-speed set of 30 questions in 15 minutes, a long timed run of 60 questions in 60 minutes, 40 interview and situational questions, and the free sample of 4: in the full test player with a question palette and mark for review. After each set: your score, a breakdown by ability, question type or competency, your time per question and the explanation of every answer. Retake any set as often as you like.
How do I pay and get access?
One payment by card (or PayPal where offered), handled by our payment provider. In Canada the price is charged in Canadian dollars, and in the United States, the United Kingdom and the euro area in your own currency. Before you pay, the checkout shows the exact amount and the currency you will be charged in. If your currency is not supported, the charge is in Indian rupees (INR), and any local figure shown before checkout is an estimate, not the amount charged. Access opens on this device straight after payment. Sign in afterwards to keep it on your account. Purchase policy.
