Clerical Officer practice test: rate the actions in 12 work scenarios
In recent publicjobs Clerical Officer and Temporary Clerical Officer competitions, including Clerical Officer in the Civil Service Nationwide 2026, Stage 1 was an online Assessment Questionnaire. In Part B you read a work scenario and rate each possible action on its own as a Good, Adequate, Weak or Bad response, and your score sets your place in the order of merit for interview. This practice test gives you 12 original scenarios and 39 actions to rate in the full test player, with the reason behind every rating. Start with the 4 free ratings.

What is inside
| Part | Questions | Clock |
|---|---|---|
| Practice test 1 | 6 scenarios, 19 actions to rate | 20-minute practice clock |
| Practice test 2 | 6 scenarios, 20 actions to rate | 20-minute practice clock |
The publicjobs documents give no time limit for the Assessment Questionnaire, so the 20-minute clock is ours: a pace, not a rule.
How the ratings work
Each action is rated on its own, as if it were the only one taken: Good (meets the needs of the situation well), Adequate (acceptable, with some shortcomings or omissions), Weak (falls below the acceptable level) or Bad (falls far below the acceptable level). publicjobs says not every scenario has every rating. Our ratings are judged against the scale and the Clerical Officer capability framework, and each explanation says why.
Part A of the questionnaire asks about your own skills and experience; in Clerical Officer Nationwide 2026 it included four written answers of 100 to 200 words. Your answers there should reflect your own skills and experience accurately, as publicjobs says responses may be verified at interview, so it is not in this test, which practises Part B.
