Group Bourdon practice test: a timed concentration trainer
Train attention, the ability RSSB's standard names for the Group Bourdon. Find and mark every group of exactly four dots, sheet after sheet, against the clock. Level 1 is free; there are ten levels in all.
Free · no sign-in
Start with three timed sheets
One 40-second sheet: mark every group of four dots. Your accuracy, speed and errors at the end. No sign-in needed.
Mouse, touch or keyboard · your result appears after the run
How the trainer works
- Each sheet is a grid of boxes, each holding a group of dots.
- Tap every box that holds exactly four dots. Tap again to take a mark back.
- Work along each row from left to right, then on to the next row, as you would read.
- Each sheet has its own clock. When it runs out, the next sheet starts. Press Done if you finish a sheet early.
- Unless you press Done, each sheet is scored up to your last mark: boxes after it count as not reached, not as errors. Pressing Done scores the whole sheet.
What the result tells you
- Accuracy: the share of the boxes you reached that you got right: no missed four, no wrong mark
- Groups per minute: how many boxes you reached, per minute of time used
- Score: correct marks minus wrong marks, never below zero
- Cleared: our own target, not an official standard: at least 95% accuracy and at least 60% of the boxes reached, over a full run of the level
Your runs are kept in this browser. Compare accuracy, pace and errors with your previous run of the same level.
Independent practice
Your train company's practice material shows you what to expect. This gives you 10 timed levels, with fresh sheets every run. Independent practice by ProSyllabus, not produced or checked by RSSB, an assessment centre or a train company, and not a copy of the Group Bourdon.

Before you buy
Is this the real Group Bourdon?
No. It is independent practice of the same ability, attention. RSSB's standard names the Group Bourdon as a paper attention test; this trainer is not that test and not a copy of it. Your train company's approved practice materials help you familiarise yourself with what to expect on the day; the trainer adds timed attention practice across 10 levels, with fresh sheets every run.
What do I get for the payment?
All 10 levels of the trainer (level 1 stays free), with levels 2 to 10 opening on this device and any device you sign in on: 56 to 126 groups a sheet (level 1 has 48), three to six sheets a run, groups of six dots that can appear from level 3, and less regular groups from level 6. Every run gives your accuracy, groups per minute, and missed and wrong marks by sheet and by row; when this browser holds an earlier run of the same level, it also shows the change from that run.
Will it tell me whether I would pass?
No. RSSB says RIS-3751-TOM issue four does not set pass marks: RSSB has recommended them, and each train company decides which it uses. "Cleared" is our own target for moving up a level.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap the boxes on a phone or tablet, or click them on a computer.
Do I need an account?
No. Level 1 is free with no sign-in. You can pay as a guest; signing in once afterwards keeps the trainer on your account.
