| Clinical Chemistry | Electrolytes and gaps, blood gases, enzymes, renal and liver tests, endocrine and drug levels, proteins, and the instruments behind them: photometry, ion-selective electrodes, immunoassay, electrophoresis. | 27 |
| Hematology and Coagulation | CBC indices, analyzer flags and interferences, smear findings described in words, manual counts, PT/INR, APTT, mixing studies and anticoagulant monitoring. | 27 |
| Transfusion Science | ABO and Rh typing and discrepancies, antibody identification, DAT, crossmatch, component selection and storage, and transfusion reaction workups. | 28 |

| Total | The full mock, five discipline sets, the lab practice set and the free sample of 3 | 272 |
Each of our questions has one best answer and four options; the CSMLS exam also asks for the single best answer. Questions are short lab scenarios with values, units and reference intervals where the competency calls for them, and the explanation gives the lab reasoning: why the values, the reaction or the morphology point to the answer, and why the most tempting wrong option fails. The CSMLS exam can include images; ours describe findings in words.
Your score by competency category
Every question is tagged to one competency in the CSMLS General MLT Competency Profile. After each test your result shows your score in each of the eight categories, labelled with the category's share of the exam marks, so you can see where marks leak against the official blueprint. You also get your time per question, a written review of your attempt and the explanation of every answer, naming the competency it practises.
| Blueprint category | Share of exam marks | Questions in our full mock |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Safe Work Practices | 5-7% | 6 |
| 2. Data and Specimen Collection and Handling | 5-7% | 6 |
| 3. Analytical Processes | 30-35% | 32 |
| 4. Interpretation and Reporting of Results | 20-25% | 22 |
| 5. Quality Management | 20-25% | 20 |
| 6. Critical Thinking | 5-10% | 6 |
| 7. Communication and Interaction | 3-5% | 3 |
| 8. Professional Practice | 5-7% | 5 |

The exam, as CSMLS describes it
- 210 multiple-choice questions in 3.5 hours, inside a 4-hour appointment. One best answer, one mark for each correct answer; no "all of the above" or "none of the above" options; some questions may include images; no case studies.
- The pass mark is set for each exam by the Angoff method, so it may vary from exam to exam; CSMLS says it usually falls between 60 and 80 per cent. Unsuccessful candidates see their performance in each competency category.
- CSMLS says that as of 1 March 2026 its General MLT exam is written only in the province of Alberta, and the October 2026 handbook names the October 2028 session as the last one.
- 2027 sessions: 22 to 26 February, 21 to 26 June and 25 to 29 October. All dates, deadlines and fees: our CSMLS exam dates guide. How the blueprint works: our CSMLS MLT exam format guide.

Are these real CSMLS exam questions?
No. Every question is our own, written to a competency in the CSMLS General MLT Competency Profile. None comes from a CSMLS exam or the CSMLS practice test. CSMLS exam content is confidential.
Is this made or recommended by CSMLS?
No. It is independent practice by ProSyllabus. CSMLS sells its own practice test on its website and says it does not endorse other tests that call themselves a CSMLS practice test.
Why is the mock 100 questions, not 210?
Our full mock keeps the exam's pace, one minute a question, and its category weighting, in a sitting you can fit into a study day. With the five discipline sets and the lab practice set you have 269 paid questions to work through, 272 with the free sample.
I am writing a CAMLPR exam, not CSMLS. Is this useful?
The questions cover the five fields of CAMLPR's MLT General bundle (chemistry, hematology, transfusion, microbiology and histology) and general laboratory practice, but they are tagged to the CSMLS competency categories, not to CAMLPR's competency groups, and our sets are not built like its 60-question field exams.
Will this make me pass?
We do not claim that it will. It gives you timed practice weighted to the CSMLS blueprint, your score in each competency category on our questions and the reasoning behind every answer, so you can see where to revise.
How do I pay and get access?
One payment by card (or PayPal where offered), handled by our payment provider. In Canada the price is charged in Canadian dollars; in the United States, the United Kingdom and the euro area in your own currency; elsewhere in your own currency where we support it, otherwise in Indian rupees with the local figure shown as an estimate. Access opens on this device straight after payment. Sign in afterwards to keep it on your account. Purchase policy.
