The real exam, from the CII’s own pages
- Format: 100 multiple-choice questions in two hours.
- Each question: four options, A to D, with only one correct response; one mark for each correct answer, and no marks are deducted for an incorrect response.
- Questions per learning outcome: LO1 9, LO2 2, LO3 8, LO4 14, LO5 9, LO6 5, LO7 11, LO8 2, LO9 7, LO10 4, LO11 15, LO12 6, LO13 4, LO14 4. The syllabus calls these a guide, not the actual number in every exam: each will generally be within plus or minus 2.
- This syllabus: examined from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026, on English law and practice unless otherwise stated. On 25 October 2026 the unit page also listed a 2027 study text edition for exams from 1 January 2027, but linked only the 2026 syllabus.
- Pass mark: the unit page states a standard pass mark of 70%; marks are adjusted where necessary for the difficulty of each exam version. The unit page gives the 2025 pass rate as 79.65%.
Checked on 25 October 2026 on the CII’s IF1 unit page, IF1 syllabus and IF1 examination guide for 2026 (syllabus and guide published October 2025).

What do I get?
Two full IF1 practice exams of 100 questions each, two hours each, every question with four options and one correct answer, spread across the fourteen learning outcomes following the numbers the CII’s 2026 syllabus gives as its guide. Every answer comes with an explanation naming the syllabus point and the Act, FCA rule or principle behind it. Each exam runs in our exam player (timer, question palette, mark for review) and ends with your score by learning outcome. Retake either exam as often as you like; access does not expire.
Is this the current IF1 format?
It follows the format the CII describes in its IF1 syllabus and its IF1 examination guide for exams from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 (both published October 2025), read on 25 October 2026: 100 multiple-choice questions in two hours, each with four options and only one correct response.
I am sitting IF1 in 2027. Is this still useful?
The questions are written to the 2026 syllabus. On 25 October 2026 the CII’s unit page listed a 2027 study text edition for exams from 1 January 2027 but had not yet linked a 2027 syllabus, so check the unit page for any changes to the learning outcomes before your exam.
What is the IF1 pass mark?
The CII’s IF1 unit page states that the standard pass mark is 70%. The CII explains that, where necessary, it adjusts marks for the difficulty of each exam version so that the same standard applies. Compare your practice score with 70%, remembering that a practice score is not a prediction.
Are these real exam questions?
No. They are original questions written to the learning outcomes in the CII’s IF1 syllabus. They are not CII specimen or exam questions, and the CII has not written or endorsed them. The CII’s own examination guide, on its IF1 unit page, contains a specimen exam; use it too.
Which rules do the questions follow?
English law and practice and UK insurance regulation as we understand them in October 2026, for the 2026 syllabus. Compensation limits and Ombudsman award limits are left out on purpose; Insurance Premium Tax rates follow the CII’s supporting information for the 2026 syllabus.
Will my score here predict my IF1 result?
No. A practice score shows where you are strong and weak on our questions; it is not a forecast of your exam result.
How do I pay and get access?
One payment by card, handled by our payment provider. The price is shown and charged in pounds in the UK, in your own currency elsewhere where we support it, and otherwise in Indian rupees. Access opens on this device straight after payment. Sign in afterwards to keep it on your account.
Independent practice, not written or endorsed by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). These are original questions, not CII specimen or exam questions. They follow English law and practice and UK insurance regulation as we understand them in October 2026, for the 2026 IF1 syllabus; the CII’s syllabus decides what is examined. Purchase policy.
