The essential structural point is that one paper has to be answered from two disciplines. Published syllabus summaries list physics running from units and dimensions, vectors, motion, rotational motion, fluid mechanics, elasticity, thermodynamics, oscillations, waves and optics through electromagnetism, atomic structure and quantum theory, and chemistry running from classification of matter, atomic theory, quantum numbers and radioactivity through bonding, electrochemistry, periodicity and organic reaction mechanisms. A candidate strong in only one of the two is answering roughly half a paper.

The schedule above is common to every subject in the UP TGT recruitment, so Science candidates sat the same two-day sitting and were processed on the same result and allotment dates as Sanskrit, Social Science and Urdu. What is specific to Science is the vacancy count, the cut-off and the contents of the question paper.

The single most common mistake in UP TGT Science is treating it as a paper in one's own B.Sc. specialism. It is not. The post is for teaching general science to classes nine and ten, the eligibility is reported as a B.Sc. carrying both Physics and Chemistry, and the published syllabus spans both disciplines in one 125-question paper. A candidate who was a physics honours student and coasted through chemistry is preparing roughly half the examination.

Published syllabus summaries put physics and chemistry side by side with no indication of an internal option. The physics side runs units and dimensions, vector analysis, motion, forces, rotational motion, fluid mechanics, elasticity, thermodynamics, oscillations and waves, optics, electromagnetism, atomic structure and elementary quantum theory. The chemistry side runs classification of matter, atomic theory, quantum numbers, radioactivity, chemical bonding, electrochemistry, periodic properties, organic fundamentals and reaction mechanisms. The practical consequence is that the weaker discipline, not the stronger one, sets the score. Audit both halves early, give the weaker one the larger share of study hours, and resist the instinct to keep polishing the subject that already feels comfortable.

In the 01/2022 cycle Science closed at 362.880 of 500 for unreserved men, against 404.000 for Social Science, 460.000 for Urdu and 491.904 for Sanskrit. For unreserved women it was 342.720 and for SC women 258.048, the lowest single figure in the whole subject table. Two things drive that: the paper is genuinely harder to score full marks on because it is numerical and two-disciplinary, and Science carried 540 posts, the largest block, so the merit list ran deeper before it closed. That is an opportunity, not a licence. A margin of forty to a hundred marks below other subjects still means about 73 per cent for an unreserved man.

Uttar Pradesh advertises Biology as a separate TGT subject with separate vacancies and its own cut-off, which in the 01/2022 cycle stood at 432.000 for the OBC category, far above the Science figure. Candidates with a life-sciences B.Sc. routinely apply against Science on the assumption that school science is one subject, and find both that the eligibility wording names Physics and Chemistry and that the paper is pitched at physical science. Read the subject list in the advertisement before choosing, because the choice of subject determines which vacancy pool, which paper and which cut-off apply, and it cannot be changed after the application closes.

UP TGT is a graduate-level examination and the Science syllabus is pitched at B.Sc. content, not at the class nine and ten material the successful candidate will actually teach. Quantum numbers, electrochemistry, organic reaction mechanisms, rotational dynamics and elementary quantum theory sit well above school level. Preparing from NCERT class ten science alone is the classic error. Work from undergraduate texts for the concept, then use previous UP TGT papers to calibrate how far into a topic the Commission actually goes, since the paper favours breadth of recall across many small topics over depth in a few.

The 01/2022 paper had no negative marking, which made attempting all 125 questions strictly optimal, and in a numerical subject a great many marks were picked up by elimination. If the reported change to 120 questions with one-third negative marking takes effect, that arithmetic reverses for exactly this paper more than for any language subject, because a half-remembered formula produces a confident wrong answer rather than a blank. Practise deciding quickly whether a numerical item is worth attempting, and add the reported 30-question general studies component, covering Indian history, geography, polity, economy, Uttar Pradesh affairs and current events, to the study plan without assuming it is confirmed.
