The Hindi paper is reported to carry a Sanskrit literature and grammar component alongside Hindi literary history, prose, poetics and grammar, and a translation element. TGT selection is on written marks alone, with no interview; the 40-mark interview in the revised scheme applies to PGT only.

This schedule is common to every subject in the TGT recruitment, Hindi included; the subjects were examined in the same two-day sitting and results were issued together. Only the cut-off, the merit list and the post count are Hindi-specific.

Hindi candidates consistently underestimate how high the bar is in their own subject. A reported cut-off of 484 out of 500 means roughly 121 of 125 answers correct, and it holds at that level for unreserved, EWS and OBC candidates alike, male and female. The second misjudgement is the Sanskrit component: it is reported as part of the Hindi syllabus and part of the eligibility condition, and candidates who treat Hindi as a single-language paper lose marks they cannot spare in a subject this competitive.

Reported Hindi cut-offs from the June 2026 paper sit at 484 for unreserved, EWS and OBC male candidates, 480 for SC and 456 for ST, with the female list at 484 for unreserved, EWS and OBC and 476 for SC. The unusual feature is the flatness: three categories share the same figure, meaning reservation gave almost no relief in Hindi. Compare Science, where the unreserved male figure is reported at 362.88 and SC at 294.34, a spread of nearly 70 marks. In Hindi the whole competition is decided in a band of about eight marks, or two questions, so accuracy on routine grammar and literary-history items matters more than depth anywhere else.

The reported Hindi syllabus covers the history of Hindi literature from Adikal through to Nai Kavita, the development of Hindi prose in essay, drama, novel and short story forms, poetry and poetics including rasa theory, metres and literary devices, and Hindi language and grammar covering dialects, vocabulary, script standardisation and common errors. It also carries Sanskrit literature and grammar and a translation element. Period-and-author questions from literary history are the reliable scoring block because they are finite and memorisable; the rasa, chhand and alankar material is where a large field separates, and the Sanskrit portion is routinely the least prepared.

TGT Hindi is reported to require a B.A. with Hindi together with Sanskrit at intermediate level, plus a B.Ed. from a recognised institution. That is a narrower gate than TGT English, which is reported as B.A. English literature plus B.Ed., and candidates who took Hindi at graduation without Sanskrit at the intermediate stage should check the notification's qualification table before paying the fee. The minimum age is 21, reckoned as on 1 July of the recruitment year, TET is reported as not required, and the fee in the last cycle ranged from 250 rupees for ST to 750 for general and OBC candidates.

Under the revised UPESSC scheme, 30 of the 120 questions and 90 of the 360 marks come from General Studies: Indian history and culture, geography of India and Uttar Pradesh, polity and the Constitution, economy, science and technology, Uttar Pradesh material and current affairs. In a subject where the old cut-off ran at about 97 per cent of the maximum, conceding ground on a quarter of the paper is fatal. There is partial overlap with the Hindi syllabus in the history and culture unit, and none at all in economy or science and technology, so those two need a separate schedule rather than incidental reading.

The 2022-cycle paper carried four marks a question and no penalty, so filling every bubble was correct and the merit list ran on near-perfect scores. The revised scheme introduces a penalty, described in one report as one mark deducted against three for a correct answer and in another as one third, and UPESSC's own notification text should settle it. Either way the calculation changes most sharply for Hindi, because a field large enough to produce 557 selections will still cluster near the top, and the candidates who gain are the ones who stop guessing on Sanskrit grammar and unfamiliar alankar items rather than the ones who attempt everything.
