Testbook's syllabus guide lists the UP PGT Psychology units as introduction to psychology and research methods; motivation and emotion; perception and memory; learning, covering conditioning, insight learning and habit formation; personality and its determinants; psychological testing, individual and group; guidance and counselling, educational and vocational; abnormal behaviour and mental health; and industrial psychology including employee selection. The centre of gravity is applied and school-facing rather than experimental. A candidate whose postgraduate work was in clinical or cognitive research should expect a substantial block of questions on testing instruments, counselling approaches and organisational psychology. Ninety of the 120 questions, worth 270 of 360 marks, come from Psychology, and the remaining 30 questions carry 90 marks of general knowledge. Per the revised syllabus summary published by PW, that general section covers Indian history and the freedom movement, the physical and economic geography of India and Uttar Pradesh, the Constitution, economic planning and sustainable development, elementary science and Uttar Pradesh affairs. It is identical across subjects, which means every Psychology candidate you are ranked against is preparing the same 90 marks. In a 50-post subject that section is genuinely decisive, and it is also the most finite and predictable part of the paper.

Testbook and Adda247 both report 2016 Psychology cut-offs of 372.47 for general category boys, 358.95 for OBC and 335.33 for SC, with 372.43, 338.99 and 352.95 for the corresponding girls' categories. Sociology in the same tables sat near 448 and Physics near 413. Those numbers come from coaching sites and belong to the 2016 scheme of 125 questions with no negative marking and an 85:10:5 weighting, so they cannot be mapped onto the current 400-mark structure. What they do show is that Psychology sits toward the lower end of the family's cut-off range, which usually indicates a smaller and less uniformly prepared applicant pool rather than an easier paper.

The post requires a postgraduate degree in Psychology from a recognised university and a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution, with age between 21 years as on 1 July 2026 and 62 years. Fees are 1,500 rupees for general, OBC and EWS candidates, 750 for SC and ST and 500 for persons with disabilities, due by 17 October 2026, with corrections open to 21 October. One Time Registration on the UPESSC portal is a prerequisite. Candidates holding an M.A. in Applied Psychology or a cognate title should confirm the degree nomenclature is accepted for this subject before the window closes, since a 50-post subject leaves no room to lose a cycle to a form rejection.
