The eligibility is a postgraduate degree in Physics, and the paper is pitched at that level, not at the intermediate syllabus of the aided school. The Physics section is 90 of the 120 questions and 270 of the 360 written marks, as the Advertisement 06/2026 scheme sets out. There is no separate pedagogy paper and no language paper to fall back on, so nothing compensates for a weak subject section. The 30 general knowledge questions are worth 90 marks and, per the revised syllabus summary published by PW, cover Indian history and the freedom movement, physical and economic geography of India and Uttar Pradesh, the Constitution, economic planning, elementary science and Uttar Pradesh current affairs. Treat that block as a fixed, finite scoring area worth a fortnight of revision, and put the remaining time into Physics, where the marks actually are.

Testbook's subject guide describes the UP PGT Physics syllabus as running across classical mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics, modern physics and atomic and nuclear physics, published as a subject-wise PDF rather than a short list. That is an M.Sc. spread, and the honest reading is that a candidate who has only revised intermediate Physics will meet questions on Lagrangian formulations, Maxwell's equations in media, statistical distributions and nuclear models that simply do not appear in a school textbook. Because this outline comes from a coaching source rather than the Commission, confirm the unit list against the official syllabus PDF on the UPESSC portal before fixing a study plan around it.

Physics is the subject in this family where a candidate is most likely to be half-certain: a derivation half-remembered, a numerical where two options are dimensionally plausible. Under the 2016 rules, marking all of those was free. Under Advertisement 06/2026 each correct answer is worth 3 and each wrong one costs 1, so an attempt is worth making only when the chance of being right is better than one in four. In a two-hour paper of 120 questions you have roughly a minute a question; the practical consequence is that time spent forcing a doubtful numerical is worth less than time spent banking a theory question you know outright.

Physics has 132 posts, 122 in boys' schools and 10 in girls' schools. It is a mid-sized subject in this recruitment, larger than Sociology at 84 or Psychology at 50 but half the size of Sanskrit at 264. Testbook and Adda247 both report 2016 Physics cut-offs of 412.97 for general category boys, 394.17 for OBC and 361.18 for SC, with 386.07 for general category girls. Those figures are from coaching sites, belong to the old 500-mark scheme with no negative marking, and are not directly comparable to the 400-mark structure now in force; they are useful only as a signal that Physics historically settled below Sociology and above Psychology.

The post requires a postgraduate degree in the subject from a recognised university plus a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution, with age between 21 years as on 1 July 2026 and 62 years. Fees are 1,500 rupees for general, OBC and EWS candidates, 750 for SC and ST and 500 for persons with disabilities. One Time Registration on the UPESSC portal is a prerequisite, and candidates who leave it to the closing days of a window that ends on 17 October risk losing the cycle on a technicality.
