Ninety questions across six units means no unit can be written off. The usual failure is a candidate who is strong on nutrition and child development, which dominate popular study material, and thin on textiles and extension education, which do not. Extension Education in particular — community development, formal and informal communication systems, leadership and women's empowerment — is the unit most often absent from private study notes, and it is the one a state recruitment for girls' institutions has an obvious reason to test.

The Textile and Clothing unit covers fibre properties, textile manufacture, yarn classification, fabric construction, dyeing and printing, traditional Indian textiles, garment stitching and care and stain removal. This is factual, definitional material with clean right answers, which makes it the most reliable place to bank marks under a minus-one penalty — and also the place where a candidate who skimmed it will be guessing. Human Physiology behaves the same way. Both units reward tabulated revision: fibre-by-fibre property tables, system-by-system physiology, disease classification lists. Prepare them the way one prepares a science paper rather than by reading prose chapters through once.

The nutrition unit covers food groups, the balanced diet, cooking methods, clinical nutrition and meal planning for different age groups, and Home Management covers classification of resources, the management process, work simplification, financial planning and consumer education. These two units are where questions turn applied — planning a diet for a given age or condition, identifying a management step, applying a consumer protection provision. Rote definitions are not enough. Work through meal-planning problems for the specific groups the syllabus names, and treat consumer education as a legal-awareness topic with dates and rights to be learned rather than a general discussion.

The cut-off compilations available for UP PGT list Hindi, History and Mathematics but carry no Home Science row, which is what a twelve-post subject looks like in the data. That means there is no historical benchmark to aim at and no way to say whether Home Science cuts above or below the family average. The sensible response is to plan for a high raw score rather than a target: attempt the full 90 subject questions with an attempt rate governed by confidence, secure the 30-question general studies block that covers polity, geography, economy, science, Uttar Pradesh awareness and current affairs, and avoid speculative guessing, since with twelve seats a single negative mark can be decisive. Past-paper practice is also harder to come by for a subject this small, so the realistic substitutes are TGT-level Home Science papers for topic familiarity and standard postgraduate textbooks for depth.
