Geography is the one subject among the four large arts and commerce papers whose own syllabus overlaps the general knowledge block directly: the reported general studies content includes Indian geography alongside history, polity, economy, science and information technology. The overlap is real but partial, and the physical and cartographic units of the Geography paper have no counterpart in the general block at all. The Commission's own Geography syllabus file is the controlling document; the seven-unit description above is a preparation portal's summary of it and should be verified against the original before a revision plan is built on it.

The schedule above is common to every subject in the recruitment; Geography has no separate window or examination date of its own. Age is reckoned on 1 July 2026 against a band of 21 to 62 years, and the correction window on 21 October is the last chance to fix a wrongly selected subject or school category on the form. Women candidates weighing the nine girls'-school posts against the main list should settle that choice on the form before the correction window shuts, because it cannot be amended later.

Geography candidates prepare the physical and Indian units thoroughly and then lose marks in two places they never revised: geographical thought and cartography. Both are named units of the published syllabus, both are closed bodies of material, and both are skipped because they feel peripheral to school teaching. The second thing candidates misread is the vacancy table: 248 posts looks generous until you notice that only nine of them are in girls' schools, the narrowest such allocation among the large subjects.

The published syllabus lists geographical thought, physical geography, geography of India, human geography, economic geography, cultural geography and cartography. Geographical thought covers the meaning and scope of the discipline, the development of geographical knowledge in India and abroad, and the schools of environmentalism, possibilism and humanism. Cartography covers map projections, topographical maps, statistical methods in geography, remote sensing and geographic information systems. Neither unit is large, but both are finite and factual, which makes them unusually efficient to revise for an OMR paper. A candidate who leaves them out is conceding questions that cost nothing to secure while competing against people who did not.

Physical geography in this syllabus runs from the origin of the earth and plate tectonics through landform development, atmospheric processes and climate systems, oceanography and ecological concepts including biodiversity conservation. The geography of India unit covers physiography, the monsoon, natural vegetation, agriculture, mineral resources, industries, population and environmental problems. These two units carry the largest share of recallable fact in the paper and are also the most examinable at speed. Human, economic and cultural geography sit beside them with population distribution and migration, settlement and urbanisation, resources and their conservation, agricultural regions, industrial location theory, international trade, globalisation and disaster management.

The subject-wise table gives Geography 239 posts in boys' aided schools and 9 in girls' schools. Among the four large arts and commerce subjects that is the sharpest skew: English has 29 girls'-school posts of 285, Economics 24 of 202, Commerce 1 of 63. For women candidates weighing which of two eligible subjects to apply in, that difference is material, because a nine-post list compresses at the top and leaves no margin. For everyone, the boys'-school figure of 239 is the number that governs the main merit list, and the interview weightage of 40 marks applies on top of it.

The Commission has published no cut-off for this cycle. For reference only, coaching compilations of the 2016 Geography merit list report boys'-school cut-offs of roughly 359.47 for General, 348.57 for OBC, 327.47 for SC and 293.57 for ST on a 500-mark base, with a girls'-school General figure near 346. Unusually, the two circulating compilations agree on direction here: a more recent table from one coaching site puts the Geography General cut near 358, again the lowest of the four subjects compared on this run. That consistency is suggestive rather than probative, since both are secondary sources and the mark base has changed to 360 written plus 40 interview.

Cartography is the part of this syllabus that can consume time disproportionately, because projection properties and statistical measures invite working rather than recognition. With 120 questions in two hours the average is a minute each, and the new one-mark deduction for a wrong or multiple answer removes the old incentive to fill every bubble. The practical approach is to learn projections by their properties and typical use rather than by construction, to treat statistical methods in geography as definitions and interpretation rather than computation, and to leave any question that would need a sketch. Marks conceded there are cheaper than marks lost elsewhere to overrun.
