There is no separate Commerce paper and no separate general paper: the 30 general knowledge questions sit inside the same booklet and the same two hours as the 90 Commerce questions, so three quarters of the written marks turn on Commerce alone. Reported general knowledge coverage runs to current national and international events, Indian history, polity, economy and geography, general science, health and nutrition, and information and communication technology including Python. The Commission's own Commerce syllabus file is the controlling document and should be downloaded from the portal rather than reconstructed from any summary.

This calendar is common to every subject in Advertisement 06/2026; Commerce has no separate window or date of its own. Which of the two December sittings carries Commerce is decided by the Commission's subject-to-day allocation, which had not been published when this page was compiled. Commerce candidates applying against the single girls'-school post should also confirm the school-category field on the form before 21 October, since it cannot be changed afterwards.

The commonest mistake in UP PGT Commerce is preparing for it as though it were UGC NET Commerce. The eligibility is a postgraduate Commerce degree, but the sourced topic list is narrower and more accounting-heavy than the NET syllabus, and it is answered under a marking scheme that punishes the guessing habits that accounting numericals invite. The second mistake is arithmetic: 63 posts is a very small cadre, so the paper is decided at the top of the distribution rather than in the middle.

Published topic lists for the Commerce paper group the subject into three blocks. Accounts is the heaviest: double entry principles, final accounts with adjustments, partnership accounts, company accounts including issue and redemption of preference shares and debentures, cost accounting with unit and contract costing, income tax definitions such as agricultural income, assessee, previous year and assessment year and the determination of residential status, and managerial accounting with ratio and break-even analysis. The second block is business organisation and management, covering forms of business, domestic and foreign trade, the schools of management and the contributions of Taylor, Fayol and Mayo, and the functions of planning, staffing, motivation, coordination and control. The third block pairs higher economic principles with statistical method. Treat the accounts block as the paper's centre of gravity.

The subject-wise table attached to Advertisement 06/2026 gives Commerce 62 posts in boys' aided schools and a single post in a girls' school, 63 in total. Two consequences follow. First, Commerce is roughly two and a half per cent of the 2,607 posts on offer, against 285 for English and 248 for Geography, so a small swing in the number of applicants moves the Commerce cut-off much further than it moves a large subject's. Second, women candidates who might have expected a separate girls'-school merit list effectively have none in Commerce this cycle; with one post, that list is decided by a single rank. Anyone planning around a girls'-school route should read the notification's category table before assuming a softer cut.

The Commission has not published a Commerce cut-off for this cycle, and nothing should be inferred about December from figures on the older pattern. For reference only, coaching compilations of the 2016 Commerce merit list put the boys'-school cut at about 401.97 for General, 387.74 for OBC and 361.99 for SC on a 500-mark base, which placed Commerce above English and Geography and close to Economics. One widely circulated table for the most recent cycle reports a higher General figure near 417, but the same table reorders the subjects relative to 2016, so the two are not consistent. Both are secondary-source compilations, not Commission releases, and the marks base has changed to 360 plus 40.

The revised pattern applies a one-mark deduction for a wrong or multiple answer against three marks for a correct one, which is reported as a departure from the earlier Commerce papers. On a ratio of three to one a considered attempt is still worth making, but the accounting and cost-accounting numericals in this paper are the specific danger: they are the questions a Commerce candidate is most tempted to half-work under time pressure and then commit to. With two hours for 120 questions the average is one minute per question, which does not allow a full working for a contract costing or redemption item. Decide in advance which numerical families you will solve and which you will leave, rather than deciding in the hall.

Thirty questions worth 90 marks sit outside Commerce, and for a subject whose merit list is only 63 deep those marks are frequently what separates adjacent ranks. Two parts of the reported general studies content overlap usefully with a Commerce preparation, namely the Indian economy portion and the information and communication technology portion, which is reported to extend to Python. The parts that do not overlap, current affairs of national and international importance, Indian history and polity and general science with health and nutrition, need separate revision time rather than being left to general reading. Budget them across the eight weeks before the December sitting instead of the final fortnight.
