The written paper is the same shape for every subject: 30 general knowledge questions and 90 subject questions, three marks each, minus one for a wrong answer, in two hours. Where candidates tie, the advertisement sets the order of resolution as written marks first, then interview marks, then post graduate percentage, then training qualification percentage, and finally age.

The advertisement states that cut-off marks will be displayed on the commission's website after the selection process is complete, so no minimum qualifying mark is published in advance. Every subject in this recruitment shares the same application window and the same 15 and 16 December examination dates.

The single most common error is looking for this recruitment in the wrong place. Candidates still search for UPSESSB and the upsessb.org portal, but the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board Act, 1982 was repealed by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Act, 2023. Teacher recruitment in aided schools now sits with the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission at Prayagraj, and advertisement 06/2026 is issued in that commission's name.

Uttar Pradesh formerly ran three separate recruiting bodies: the Higher Education Services Commission under the 1980 Act, the Secondary Education Service Selection Board under the 1982 Act, and an earlier Education Service Selection Commission under a 2019 Act. Section 31(1) of Act 15 of 2023 repealed all three and vested their work in one commission seated at Prayagraj, which also conducts the state teacher eligibility test. Practically, this means archived pages, older coaching material and even news reports from the 2022 cycle still say UPSESSB, and they describe the same recruitment stream. Verify anything time-sensitive, especially dates and vacancy counts, against the current commission's own site at upessc.up.gov.in rather than the older board's material.

Every subject's paper carries 30 general knowledge questions worth 90 marks alongside 90 subject questions worth 270. Those 90 marks are a quarter of the written total and they are the only part of the paper that is identical for a Hindi applicant and a Chemistry applicant, which makes them the cheapest marks in the exam to secure and the most expensive to neglect. Subject specialists routinely treat the general knowledge block as an afterthought and lose a clear margin to candidates who prepared Uttar Pradesh-specific general awareness, current affairs and static general knowledge systematically. Budget a fixed slice of weekly revision to it from the start rather than in December, when subject revision will crowd it out.

The scheme deducts one mark for a wrong answer or for marking more than one option, against three marks for a correct answer. The break-even point is therefore one correct answer for every three wrong, which is more forgiving than a one-quarter penalty but still punishes blind guessing across a long tail of unfamiliar questions. On a 120-question paper in two hours the sensible pattern is to complete a first pass on certain answers, a second pass on questions where you can eliminate two options, and to leave the residue blank. Candidates moving from the older non-penalty pattern most often lose here, by carrying forward an attempt-everything habit that no longer pays.

Selection is 400 marks: 360 written plus a 40-mark interview. Forty marks is only a tenth of the total, but in a recruitment where the 2016 cut-offs in competitive subjects sat in the 340 to 372 range, a tenth of the total is decisive at the boundary. The commission also uses the interview as the first tie-break: equal written marks are separated by interview marks, then by post graduate percentage, then by training qualification percentage, then by age. Candidates should therefore keep documentary proof of post graduate and B.Ed. marks in order, because those percentages feed the tie-break directly and disputes at verification cost places.

The 2,607 posts are spread very unevenly across 26 subjects, and the odds differ by an order of magnitude between them. Hindi has 374 posts, English 285, Sanskrit 264, Geography 248, Economics 202 and Chemistry 185, while Craft Arts has two, Crop Science four, Instrumental Music eleven, and Logic, Home Science and Military Science twelve each. Posts are further split between boys' schools, 2,329, and girls' schools, 278, with several subjects such as Home Science and Craft Arts advertised only on the girls' side. Check both the subject total and the split for your category and gender before choosing, since a subject with a handful of posts may have no vacancy at all in your category.
