Two of these four are live in the ordinary sense: Punjab is interviewing and Andhra Pradesh is about to open applications. Himachal Pradesh appears in search listings mainly through its March 2025 advertisement for ten vacancies, and no current Himachal notification is confirmed on this page. Where a state is not listed here, it does not mean the post does not exist there, only that no current notice was traced.

These rows belong to three different commissions and do not describe one process. The Punjab dates close out a cycle that began in October 2025; the Andhra Pradesh dates open a new one. Nothing in this table is a nationwide HDO calendar.

The recurring error is preparing for a generic horticulture officer paper. There is no such paper. Punjab penalises a wrong answer by a full mark on a 480-mark objective test and adds an interview; Andhra Pradesh runs a computer-based examination of three papers plus a qualifying language test with one-third negative marking. The same candidate needs materially different attempt discipline in each.

The PPSC Horticulture Development Officer written examination is reported as 120 multiple-choice questions carrying 480 marks over two hours, with one mark deducted for every incorrect answer. Each question is worth four marks, so a wrong answer costs a quarter of what a right answer earns, which is a heavier penalty than the one-third and one-quarter rules common elsewhere. On a 120-question paper where the subject split is 90 agriculture questions for 360 marks, 10 general knowledge for 40, 10 mental ability and reasoning for 40 and 10 Punjabi for 40, the agriculture block alone is 75 per cent of the marks. Answering every agriculture question you half-know, and leaving the non-subject blocks blank where you are unsure, is a defensible strategy under that arithmetic.

PPSC adds a 60-mark interview to the 480-mark written examination, for a total of 540 marks, so the interview is roughly 11 per cent of the aggregate. On a 101-post recruitment where written scores cluster, an 11 per cent component is enough to move candidates dozens of ranks. The interviews are being conducted at the Commission's office in Baradari Gardens, Patiala, across seven days from 17 to 28 September 2026, in sessions reporting at 8:30 am and 12:30 pm. The notice states that latecomers will not be allowed to appear, and that candidates must bring self-attested certificates along with a signed printout of the online application form.

The Andhra Pradesh Horticulture Officer selection is reported as a single-level online computer-based recruitment test, made up of a qualifying language test plus three papers totalling 450 marks, with negative marking of one third of a mark per incorrect response applied to the main papers. There is no preliminary filter, which means everyone who applies sits the full examination and the entire outcome rests on one sitting. With 37 provisional vacancies and a four-year B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Hons.) in Horticulture as the qualification, from a recognised Andhra Pradesh university or an ICAR-accredited institution, the eligible pool is narrow and the competition is concentrated rather than broad.

Punjab requires a Punjabi language qualification in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture with a Horticulture specialisation at a minimum of 50 per cent marks, or an M.Sc. in Horticulture. Andhra Pradesh builds a qualifying language test into the computer-based examination itself. In both cases the language component does not add to the merit score but can remove a candidate from the list entirely. Out-of-state applicants in particular should establish before paying the fee whether they hold, or can obtain in time, the specific certificate the commission accepts, because a matriculation-level language certificate obtained after the closing date is usually not admissible.

The Punjab advertisement is reported as open to candidates aged 18 to 37 years, with relaxation to 42 for SC and BC candidates and to 47 for persons with disabilities. That is an unusually wide band for a Group-A post and it brings experienced horticulture graduates into direct competition with fresh postgraduates. For Andhra Pradesh, the brief notification does not state age limits and these are expected in the detailed notification due on or before 6 October 2026. Do not assume the APPSC band will match Punjab's. Candidates near a ceiling should watch for the detailed notification on the day it appears, because the application window is only three weeks long.
