Pollution control board recruitment is not a single examination. Each board decides its own post titles, its own conducting agency and its own selection chain, and some states hand the work to a general recruitment commission instead. Rajasthan used IBPS to run registration and the written paper, Uttar Pradesh filtered through UPSSSC's PET-2025 score, and Odisha is reported to use a computer-based test with interview for technical posts.

The Rajasthan dates are the only complete cycle traceable end to end in these sources, and the correction window, the shortlist and the joining order all appear on the board's own page. Dates for other boards come from single reports and should be confirmed against the board's notification before acting.

Candidates most often assume a pollution control board post is scored the way a general state service post is scored, with a prelims and mains and a large interview weight. In the cycles traceable here it is not. Rajasthan ran one written paper and then went straight to document verification and medical, and Uttar Pradesh did not run its own screening paper at all, filtering instead on a score earned in a separate preliminary eligibility test the year before.

The Rajasthan JSO qualification is reported as a first-class MSc or MS in Chemistry, Soil Science, Environmental Science or Microbiology. First class is a hard bar, not a preference, and the four named subjects are a closed list, so a general life sciences or geology postgraduate is out regardless of how relevant the work experience looks. The parallel JEE stream is engineering-side and is counted separately, including a separate TSP and non-TSP split that produces its own merit lists. Read which stream your degree maps to before anything else, because the two streams have different vacancy pools and different cut-offs even within one advertisement.

The Rajasthan cycle shows how much of the timeline sits after the paper. The written examination was on 25 January 2026, but the document verification shortlist came only on 25 June, verification on 8 July, the final result on 18 August and the joining order on 21 August. That is roughly seven months between writing the paper and a joining date. Anyone planning finances, notice periods at a current employer, or a parallel application elsewhere should assume a gap of that order rather than a few weeks. It also means the shortlist stage is usually drawn at about twice the number of posts, so a place on it is provisional.

Rajasthan charged 1,400 rupees for general candidates, 1,200 for BC and EWS and 1,000 for SC, ST and PH. Uttar Pradesh charged a flat 25 rupee processing fee across every category because the real filter, PET-2025, was already paid for. CPCB charged nothing at all for its 2026 contractual recruitment. The point is practical: a board that charges nothing or almost nothing will draw a far larger applicant pool per post, which shifts where the effective cut-off sits, and a board that charges over a thousand rupees is implicitly thinning the field before the paper is written.

CPCB's 2026 intake of 51 posts was explicitly contractual, with consolidated monthly pay reported between 38,741 and 1,71,597 rupees and selection by application screening and shortlisting on qualification and experience, with a written test only as a possibility. That is an experience-weighted route, with three to eight years expected at the senior scientist levels. A state JSO post, by contrast, is a regular graded appointment decided on a written paper. Treating the two as interchangeable leads candidates with strong marks but no work history to spend effort on a central advert that screens mainly on experience.

Rajasthan's board used IBPS for registration, admit cards and grievance redressal through cgrs.ibps.in, while applications originated on the SSO Rajasthan portal. Uttar Pradesh delegated the whole front end to UPSSSC and normalised PET-2025 scores to build its shortlist. Odisha is reported to run its own computer-based test with an interview or viva stage for some technical posts. Practically, this determines where notices appear, what the admit card looks like, and which portal to complain to when a document is rejected. Bookmark the conducting agency's page as well as the board's, because corrections and admit cards usually appear on the former first.
