The Tier-2 paper is bilingual in Hindi and English for all posts except the PGT and TGT Modern Indian Language streams, which are set in the language concerned. The notification does not print the English syllabus; it states that the detailed Tier-2 syllabus is published on the KVS and NVS websites and sets the TGT standard at graduation level.

The calendar is common to every subject in the recruitment, so English shares it with the other eleven TGT streams and with the PGT papers sat on the same day. Only the result phase is post-specific. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

English candidates walk into Tier-1 expecting the paper to lean their way and it does not. English Language is 10 questions and 30 marks out of 300. Even adding the Modern Indian Language section, the language content is 60 marks, one fifth of the paper, against 240 marks of reasoning, arithmetic, computer literacy and general knowledge. The screening stage is effectively a general aptitude test that an English graduate must clear on the same terms as everyone else, and its score does not carry into the merit list afterwards.

Ten questions at three marks each is the entire English Language allocation in Tier-1. A candidate who answers all ten correctly gains thirty marks over a rival who answers none, in a field where the shortlist is a ranked cut at 1:10 against 281 posts and where Numeric Ability alone is worth sixty. The one-mark deduction for each wrong answer makes the calculation sharper still: in a section of twenty general knowledge questions, six wrong guesses erase the whole English advantage. Preparation time before January is therefore better spent on the three sections an English graduate is least likely to have touched since school, which are Numeric Ability, Basic Computer Literacy and General Knowledge, together worth 180 of the 300 marks.

Tier-2 is entirely English and is worth 85 per cent of the final merit. The paper runs two and a half hours for 100 marks: 60 objective questions of one mark each with a quarter-mark penalty, and 10 descriptive questions of four marks each totalling 40 marks and carrying no penalty. The standard for TGT is graduation level, one step below the post-graduate standard set for PGT English, which matters because many candidates prepare from PGT material and over-invest in critical theory and specialised period study. The descriptive block is where an English graduate should expect to separate from the field, since forty marks of written answer is the largest uninterrupted subject-specific weighting anywhere in the process.

At 281 posts, English is the biggest of the academic TGT streams in the NVS tables, ahead of Mathematics at 279 and Hindi at 251, though well behind Computer Science at 653 and Special Educator at 495. A larger vacancy count widens the 1:10 Tier-2 shortlist and the 1:3 interview shortlist in absolute numbers, but it also draws the largest applicant pool of any academic subject, because an English bachelor's degree with B.Ed and CTET Paper-II is the commonest teaching qualification in the country. Since shortlisting is ratio-based rather than mark-based, the cut-off in English is determined by how the two effects net out, and CBSE has not published subject-wise cut-off marks for this cycle.

The TGT entry requires competence to teach in both English and Hindi, and the Tier-2 paper itself is set bilingually in Hindi and English for all posts except the Modern Indian Language streams. An English specialist is therefore being recruited to teach in a school where the working environment is bilingual and where teaching duties can extend beyond the subject. The Tier-1 paper reinforces this by carrying a compulsory Modern Indian Language section alongside English, each of ten questions. Candidates who selected a Modern Indian Language at application without thinking about it should note that the choice was made at form-filling stage and the correction window closed on 15 December 2025.

An NVS English teacher works in a fully residential Class VI to XII school, one of 653 that the Samiti runs in every state except Tamil Nadu. The notification requires teachers to live on the Vidyalaya campus in rent-free accommodation, take House Mastership, supervise remedial and evening study, run co-curricular activities and escort children during the migration scheme, with probation assessed on those duties alongside teaching. A ten per cent special allowance attaches for residential duty. Pay is Level 7, Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400, the upper age limit is 35 years with the usual category relaxations, and initial posting may be anywhere in India.
