Tier-1 is a two-hour screening paper only: three marks a correct answer, one deducted for a wrong one, shortlisting at 1:10 against notified vacancies, and no contribution to merit. Tier-2 runs two and a half hours for 100 marks and is set bilingually in Hindi and English. Final merit is 85 per cent Tier-2 and 15 per cent interview. The post is at Level-8, Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100, with an upper age limit of 40 years and a requirement of a master's degree and B.Ed., each with at least 50 per cent marks.

Apart from the result line, this calendar is common to the whole of Notification 01/2025 and to both organisations: one notification, one application window, one Tier-1 and one Tier-2 covering PGT, TGT, PRT, Principal and the non-teaching posts. Mathematics candidates for KVS and for NVS sat identical papers on the same days. Result dates differ by subject only because CBSE released Tier-2 outcomes in twelve phases between 17 August and 14 September 2026. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

Mathematics is the subject in this drive where the two organisations diverge most sharply in size. Navodaya notified 167 posts against 80 in KVS, so a candidate who thought of the NVS column as a supplement had the proportions reversed. The other common error is tactical: the Numeric Ability part of Tier-1 is arithmetic, not mathematics, and a strong mathematician who assumes it is free ground can still be screened out by the two parts that carry no mathematics at all.

NVS notified 167 PGT Mathematics posts: 69 unreserved, 16 EWS, 45 OBC non-creamy-layer, 25 SC and 12 ST, with seven PwBD reservations across locomotor, visual, hearing and other categories. KVS notified 80, giving 247 Mathematics posts in total. On CBSE's shortlisting statistics of 24 March 2026, 2,868 candidates were carried into the Mathematics Tier-2 paper, a little above the 1:10 ratio once ties are absorbed. At the 1:3 interview ratio roughly 500 candidates should be called against the Navodaya posts alone. A candidate weighing organisation preference should note that Mathematics is the only one of the three main science and humanities subjects here where NVS outnumbers KVS by more than two to one.

Tier-1 is 100 questions for 300 marks in two hours, structured as General Reasoning, Numeric Ability, Basic Computer Literacy and General Knowledge at 20 questions and 60 marks each, plus English and one Modern Indian Language at 10 questions and 30 marks each. A mathematician should bank the 60 Numeric Ability marks and most of the Reasoning, which together are 120 of the 300. The losses come in Basic Computer Literacy and General Knowledge, another 120 marks, which reward a few weeks of ordinary factual revision and nothing mathematical. With three marks a correct answer and one deducted for a wrong one, a blind guess costs a third of the value, so the sensible policy in Tier-1 is to leave genuinely unknown items alone.

Tier-2 is 70 items for 100 marks in two and a half hours: 60 one-mark objective questions with 0.25 deducted for error, and 10 descriptive questions of four marks each carrying no penalty. Because merit is 85 per cent Tier-2 and 15 per cent interview, those 40 descriptive marks are close to a third of the whole selection, and in Mathematics they call for written solutions with stated hypotheses, correct notation and a visible line of argument rather than a bare final answer. The practical risk is the clock: 70 items in 150 minutes leaves little room to rescue the descriptive section at the end, so it should be timetabled first or fixed at a set point in the paper.

Notification 01/2025 sets the Tier-2 standard for PGT posts at postgraduate level, as against graduation level for TGT and senior secondary for PRT, and then directs candidates to a detailed syllabus published under the recruitment heading on the KVS and NVS websites. That subject-wise document is issued separately and we could not open it while preparing this page, so we will not print a Mathematics unit list we have not read. This is the part of the job that has no Kendriya Vidyalaya equivalent. The notification records 653 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas functioning across India except in Tamil Nadu, largely rural, fully residential and co-educational, and requires teachers to stay on the Vidyalaya campus with rent-free accommodation as available. The duties listed beyond teaching are House Mastership, remedial and supervisory studies, co-curricular organisation, escorting students on migration and other official purposes, and student welfare, and the notification says performance in all these areas is assessed during probation. Initial posting may be anywhere in India, and a request to change station or region will not be entertained under any circumstances.
