With 106 posts, Geography draws roughly 1,060 candidates into Tier-2 under the 1:10 screening ratio and roughly 318 into interview under the 1:3 ratio, the narrowest of these funnels among the four social-science subjects in the NVS list. The eighteen units cover the whole senior-secondary course rather than a research specialism, and two of them are explicitly about reading and interpreting maps. Final merit is 85 per cent Tier-2 and 15 per cent interview.

The schedule above is common to every post and subject in Notification 01/2025 across both NVS and KVS; there was never a separate Geography window or paper date. CBSE has said that interview schedules and call letters for posts requiring an interview will be released through individual candidate logins once finalised, rather than as a single dated public notice. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

Geography candidates usually prepare the subject as content and neglect that two of the eighteen published units are about technique: Fundamentals of Maps, and Topographic and Weather Maps. In a purely written paper those units become questions about scale, projection, contour interpretation and weather-symbol reading rather than an afternoon with a planimeter, and they are the units least likely to have been revisited since a candidate's own undergraduate practical class. The second trap is scale: at 106 posts this is the tightest of the four large NVS social-science funnels, so a middling mark on the map units is not recoverable elsewhere.

Units eleven and twelve of the published Geography syllabus are Fundamentals of Maps and Topographic and Weather Maps. There is no practical examination in this recruitment, so those units have to be tested on paper: types of scale and scale conversion, map projections and their properties and uses, conventional signs, contour patterns and the landforms they represent, relief interpretation from a Survey of India toposheet, and the reading of weather charts with their isobars, fronts and station-model symbols. These are precise, answerable questions and they are frequently the difference between candidates whose content knowledge is otherwise similar. They also map directly onto what a Navodaya geography teacher will actually demonstrate at the board, which is why the recruitment keeps them.

Units seven to ten are India-Physical Environment, Physiography, Climate Vegetation and Soil, and Hazards and Disasters: Causes, Consequences and Management. Together with units seventeen and eighteen, Resources and Development and Geographical Perspective on selected issues and problems, that is a substantial Indian regional block. It demands named specifics: the physiographic divisions and their boundaries, the monsoon mechanism and its retreat, the major soil groups and where they occur, the seismic and cyclone-prone zones, and the standard management frameworks for floods, droughts, landslides and earthquakes. Generic physical geography prepared from a global textbook will not answer these. Revise with an atlas open, because the questions are as often locational as conceptual.

Geography as a Discipline, The Earth, Landforms, Climate, Water (Oceans) and Life on the Earth form the opening third. The level is senior-secondary: the branches and scope of the discipline, the origin and interior of the earth, plate tectonics, geomorphic processes and the landforms they produce, the composition and structure of the atmosphere, insolation and heat balance, pressure and wind systems, humidity and precipitation, world climatic types, ocean relief, temperature and salinity, waves, tides and currents, and biomes, ecosystems and the biogeochemical cycles. A postgraduate in geomorphology or climatology will find nothing difficult here but should still revise the parts outside their specialism, because the objective section spreads across all eighteen units rather than rewarding depth in any one.

Tier-2 is 2.5 hours for 60 objective questions worth one mark each and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks in total, so the descriptive section carries 40 per cent of the paper on about a third of the time available if answered evenly. For Geography the sensible approach is to sketch rather than write wherever a sketch will do: a labelled cross-section, a contour diagram, a pressure-belt schematic or a simple location map earns its marks faster than a paragraph. Objective answers carry a 0.25 penalty for a wrong response, so a candidate who is genuinely unsure on a locational question should leave it and spend the seconds saved on the written answers, which carry no negative marking.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are rural, fully residential co-educational schools, and the notification states that teachers are required to stay on the Vidyalaya campus, that initial posting may be anywhere in India, and that requests for a change of station or region will not be entertained under any circumstances. For a geography teacher this is a mixed prospect: field access and a captive residential timetable on one side, and limited mobility on the other. The post is Level-8, Rs.47,600 to 151,100, with an upper age limit of 40, and the eligibility is a master's degree in the subject with at least 50 per cent plus a B.Ed. with 50 per cent. A candidate may apply for the same post in both NVS and KVS in one cycle and pay a single examination fee.
