Every mark of Biology in this recruitment is in Tier-2. The notification states that the expected level of knowledge for PGT posts is post-graduation level, and directs candidates to the detailed subject syllabus on the KVS and NVS websites rather than printing the Biology topic list in the notification itself.

This schedule is common to every subject in the recruitment: PGT Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English, Hindi and the rest all applied in the same window and sat Tier-1 and Tier-2 on the same days. The only point at which Biology has its own calendar is the phased declaration of Tier-2 results, which has not yet reached the subject. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

Biology candidates most often misjudge the level of the subject paper. KVS PGTs teach Biology to classes eleven and twelve, so it is natural to prepare from the senior secondary book, but the notification states that the expected level of knowledge for PGT posts is post-graduation. The paper is written for someone who holds a Master's in Biological Science or Life Science, and the school syllabus is the floor rather than the ceiling. The second misjudgement is treating the ten descriptive questions as a bonus round.

The Biology Tier-2 paper is 70 questions for 100 marks in two and a half hours: 60 objective questions worth one mark each, with 0.25 deducted for a wrong answer, and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks between them. Because Tier-2 supplies 85 per cent of the final merit, the descriptive section alone accounts for roughly 34 per cent of a candidate's selection score, more than double the whole interview. Biology lends itself to descriptive answering better than most subjects: labelled diagrams, pathway sequences, comparative tables and experimental reasoning all score quickly on paper. Candidates who have drilled only multiple-choice questions arrive without any practice at writing a structured 400-word answer under time pressure, and lose marks in the highest-value part of the paper.

For Biology the notification asks for a Master's in Biological Science or Life Science, or in any specialisation of the concerned subject, but attaches a condition: the candidate must have studied the concerned subject at graduation level. This is the clause that disqualifies people every cycle. A Master's in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology or Botany can satisfy the specialisation limb, but only if Biology or the relevant subject appears in the graduation record. Fifty per cent marks are required in the Master's and separately in the B.Ed., and proficiency to teach in both Hindi and English medium is required. Check the graduation transcript, not just the postgraduate degree, before assuming eligibility.

Biology has 127 KVS posts against 213 for Physics and 204 for Chemistry, with a further 161 Biology posts on the NVS side under the same notification. Biology also draws from a much larger pool of postgraduates, because Life Science, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology and allied Master's degrees all feed into the one subject, whereas Physics draws mainly from Physics. Fewer posts and a broader eligible pool is the combination that pushes a cut-off up, so Biology candidates should not calibrate expectations against the science subjects with bigger vacancy counts. The 1:10 Tier-1 screen and the 1:3 interview shortlist are applied post-wise, so both ratios bite harder where posts are fewer.

Notification 01/2025 does not print the Biology topic list. It sets the level as post-graduation and directs candidates to the detailed syllabus published on the KVS and NVS websites. That matters because coaching summaries of the KVS PGT Biology syllabus circulate widely and do not agree with each other, and because the notification's own scheme of examination is the only part of the documentation that is beyond dispute. Work from the official detailed syllabus for topic coverage, and from the scheme of examination for structure. Where the two are silent, the senior secondary Biology curriculum indicates what the job requires, but it does not indicate the depth the paper tests.

The Biology Tier-2 result has not been declared. CBSE has released Computer Science and Chemistry results on 17 and 21 August 2026 respectively and says the rest are coming in phases, with interview call letters appearing in candidate logins once the schedule is settled with KVS or NVS. There is no public list, so the only reliable check is the candidate login on the application portal. Candidates who sat the Biology paper should keep their login credentials and registration number accessible, keep an eye on the CBSE and KVS notice pages for the next phase press note, and use the interval to prepare for a 15 per cent interview weightage that will be applied to a 1:3 shortlist.
