Tier-I runs 2 hours 30 minutes with one-third of a mark deducted for every wrong answer and no separate timing per part. Tier-II is 55 questions and 100 marks in three hours. The point most often missed is in the first row: the scheme defines Tier-I Part-V Domain Knowledge as experiential activity-based pedagogy with case studies and National Education Policy 2020, so the screening paper contains no physics at all and the entire subject burden falls on Tier-II.

Every date above except the last two is common to all subjects and posts in the EMRS Staff Selection Examination 2025, which runs on one notification, one application window and one pair of examinations. Only the Tier-II result is subject-specific, because NESTS is releasing results post by post; Physics came on 18 September 2026 with Biology, Economics and History.

The commonest error in preparing EMRS PGT Physics is to read the post-graduate entry requirement as a statement about the paper. It is not. The syllabus NESTS published on 19 September 2025 stops at Bohr's model, nuclear binding energy and the p-n junction diode. There is no quantum mechanics beyond de Broglie, no statistical mechanics, no solid state theory past energy bands. Depth beyond that list buys nothing; coverage across all 25 heads does.

Count them by block and the shape is clear. Mechanics takes nine heads: units and measurements, motion in a straight line, motion in a plane, laws of motion, work energy and power, system of particles and rotational motion, gravitation, mechanical properties of solids and mechanical properties of fluids. Heat and thermodynamics take three, oscillations and waves one. Electricity and magnetism take six, from electric charges and fields through current electricity and magnetic effects to electromagnetic induction, alternating currents and electromagnetic waves. Optics takes two, ray and wave. Modern physics closes with dual nature of radiation and matter, atoms and nuclei, and semiconductor electronics. Roughly half the syllabus is classical mechanics and electromagnetism, and that is where objective questions cluster.

The scheme of examination sets Tier-I Part-V Domain Knowledge as experiential activity-based pedagogy with case-study questions and National Education Policy 2020, for 30 marks, alongside Teaching Aptitude at 30. Nothing in the 100-mark screening paper is physics. Since Tier-I is qualifying and shortlists at 1:10, a candidate with strong physics and no reading of NEP-2020 is eliminated before the subject is ever tested. Conversely, once past Tier-I, every mark that decides the post comes from physics alone, because the bulletin states the merit list is prepared on Tier-II performance only. Those two facts should govern how a candidate divides revision time across a cycle.

Physics is the largest PGT subject in ESSE-2025 at 198 posts, against Mathematics at 134, split 83 unreserved, 19 EWS, 53 OBC non-creamy layer, 29 SC and 14 ST with eight horizontal PwBD slots. A larger requirement means a larger Tier-II field, roughly 1,980 candidates at the 1:10 ratio, drawn from the deepest applicant pool of any PGT subject because physics post-graduates compete for far fewer school posts than, say, commerce graduates do. The unreserved margin is 83 places. NESTS has not published a subject-wise Tier-II cut-off, and the Tier-I cut-off file of 31 January 2026 is an unreadable scan, so no Physics figure can be verified.

Tier-II gives 15 descriptive questions for 60 marks in a three-hour paper shared with 40 objective questions, leaving on the order of eight minutes per written answer. Physics descriptive answers are won on standard derivations produced cleanly under time: field of a dipole and Gauss's theorem applied to an infinite wire, plane sheet and spherical shell; the Biot-Savart law applied to a circular loop and Ampere's law to a solenoid; LCR resonance and power factor; lens maker's formula and the astronomical telescope; Young's double slit fringe width; Einstein's photoelectric equation; Bohr's orbit radius and energy expressions. Each of these has a canonical figure. Practising the diagram and the algebra together is the single highest-yield use of preparation time.

Eklavya Model Residential Schools are fully residential schools run by NESTS under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for Scheduled Tribe students. The bulletin states that teaching and non-teaching staff are required to stay on campus with rent-free accommodation as available, that all staff draw special pay of 10 per cent of basic, and that selected candidates can be posted in any EMRS across the country with all-India transfer liability. PGT is Level 8, Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100, with an upper age limit of 40 and a two-year probation extendable at the discretion of the competent authority. Vacancies are published subject-wise and category-wise only, with no state-wise table anywhere in the notification.
