Economics does not appear in Tier-I at all. Part-V is labelled Domain Knowledge, but the Information Bulletin and the NESTS PGT syllabus both define it as experiential activity-based pedagogy and case-study questions for 20 marks plus National Education Policy 2020 for 10, so all 100 scored screening marks are general ability, pedagogy and policy. The whole of Tier-II, all 100 marks, is Economics, and 60 of those marks are written answers where a correct diagram or a shown calculation is part of the answer.

Every date above except the result is common to all posts and subjects in the EMRS Staff Selection Examination 2025, from Principal through TGT and the non-teaching cadres. Only the Tier-II result is subject-specific, because NESTS has released it in phases; Economics came in the eighth phase on 18 September 2026.

Economics candidates prepare theory and skip statistics, and the syllabus punishes that exactly. The NESTS PGT document opens the Economics section with data collection, presentation and analytical tools before it reaches consumer behaviour at all. In a paper where 60 of 100 Tier-II marks are descriptive, a question asking for a worked coefficient of rank correlation or a correctly drawn ogive is a question you either can or cannot do.

The published content begins with primary and secondary sources, sampling methods and Census of India data, then frequency distributions and classification of variables. Presentation covers bar diagrams and pie charts, histograms, frequency polygons, ogives and time-series graphs. The analytical tools named are arithmetic mean, median and mode, Karl Pearson's coefficient of correlation and Spearman's rank correlation, and index numbers including the wholesale price index and the consumer price index. This is the block most likely to produce a numerical descriptive question, and it is the block Economics graduates who specialised in theory have usually not touched since their own school years. Work the formulae by hand until a rank correlation with tied ranks is routine.

Microeconomics on the list is utility analysis, indifference curves, budget constraints and consumer equilibrium, the demand curve with the distinction between movement along and shifts, price elasticity, features of perfect competition, market equilibrium, and price ceilings and floors. Macroeconomics runs from the two-sector circular flow through GDP, GNP, NNP and NDP and the value added, expenditure and income methods, then money supply, banking functions, credit creation and central bank instruments named as CRR, SLR and repo rate, then budget classification, deficit measures and the balance of payments. None of it asks for advanced econometrics or general equilibrium; it asks for exactness in definitions that undergraduates habitually blur, such as NNP at factor cost against NDP at market price.

A distinct block covers Indian economic history since 1947, the liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation reforms, demonetisation and the goods and services tax, and rural development and employment challenges. This is the part where currency matters and where a stale answer shows. It is also the part most useful in an EMRS classroom, where the rural development and employment content maps directly onto the lived circumstances of students from Scheduled Tribe communities. Expect at least one descriptive question that wants a policy explained rather than listed, and prepare two or three concrete Indian examples you can deploy without reaching for numbers you cannot source.

Economics is advertised at 155 posts, the biggest single PGT subject in the recruitment: 65 unreserved, 15 EWS, 41 OBC non-creamy layer, 23 SC and 11 ST. Tier-I shortlists at a ratio of 1:10 against notified vacancies, so roughly 1,550 candidates entered the Economics Tier-II, and the merit list was built on that paper alone. A large vacancy count does not automatically mean a soft cut-off, because Economics also attracts a large applicant pool, and NESTS has not published a machine-readable category-wise cut-off for the subject. Treat any figure you see on a coaching site as unverified.

Eklavya Model Residential Schools teach Classes VI to XII to students from Scheduled Tribe communities and are fully residential, which changes the job in ways KVS and Navodaya comparisons miss. The bulletin states that candidates may be posted anywhere in India on initial posting and that a request for change of station or region will not be entertained under any circumstances whatsoever. Staff stay on campus with rent-free accommodation as available, draw special pay of 10 per cent of basic pay, and serve a two-year probation during which services can be terminated without reason assigned. PGT pay is Level 8, Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100. Economics is typically a single-teacher subject in these schools, carrying both Classes XI and XII.
