The history candidate meets the subject at two very different depths in the same paper, as one-line general knowledge inside the Section A awareness block and as a 200-question post-graduate examination in Section B. Adda247's Section A breakdown and Toppersexam's Section B listing for this post give the structure; the qualifying percentages are from Chegg India.

This schedule is shared by every subject paper of the DSSSB PGT Combined Examination, 2024: a single advertisement, a single application window and one examination programme cover Post Codes 824/24 to 834/24. Only the Notice 1036 result line is specific to History, and even that was issued jointly with Hindi.

The recurring failure in DSSSB PGT History is the world-history half. Candidates come out of an Indian-history-weighted M.A., prepare ancient, medieval and modern India thoroughly, and then meet a Section B list that gives world history its own set of named themes running from Mesopotamia to China and Japan between 1840 and 1949. A second, quieter problem is calibration: the Section A general awareness block also contains history, but at a one-line factual level, and candidates who answer Section B questions with that same reflex lose marks to 0.25 deductions.

Toppersexam's listing for this post gives the world-history component as the rise of ancient civilisations with special reference to Mesopotamia, Roman and Greek civilisation, the rise of Islam, the Dark Age and feudalism in Europe, capitalism and mercantilism, and China and Japan between 1840 and 1949. That is a thematic list rather than a chronology, and it maps closely onto the NCERT Themes in World History sequence. Prepare it as themes: for feudalism, the manorial economy and its decline; for capitalism and mercantilism, the transition debate, the commercial revolution and the industrial transformation; for China and Japan, the Opium Wars, the Meiji Restoration, the 1911 revolution, the Long March and 1949. The East Asia theme is the most frequently skipped and the most tightly dated.

The same listing gives the Indian component as the Harappan civilisation, Buddhism and Jainism, the Mauryas, the Guptas, the medieval period and medieval architecture. Bansal Academy's summary expands the early part to the prehistoric age, the Indus Valley civilisation, the Vedic age and the mahajanapadas, and the medieval part to the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal empire and the regional kingdoms. Two observations follow. First, architecture is called out separately, so temple, sultanate and Mughal building styles, their vocabulary and their dated exemplars are examinable in their own right and not merely as culture notes. Second, the early historic and early medieval stretch between the Guptas and the Sultanate is thinly represented in these listings, which makes the named periods the safer investment of revision time.

Adda247's Section A breakdown lists General Awareness as 20 marks covering awards, books and authors, sports, history in its ancient, medieval and modern divisions, geography, current affairs, polity and economics. So history appears in Section A as well, but as recall of the kind found in any general-competition paper: a date, a ruler, a treaty. Section B is 200 questions at post-graduation depth on the themes above, plus pedagogy. The calibration problem runs in both directions. Candidates over-read the Section A history items, expecting subtlety that is not there, and under-read Section B items, answering from school-level memory. Practise the two at separate sittings so the register does not blur, and remember that Section A's other 80 marks are not history at all.

Toppersexam sets out the teaching education and methodology component for this post as ten heads: learning and teaching, language across the curriculum, understanding discipline and subject, gender school and society, pedagogy of a school subject, knowledge and curriculum, assessment for learning, creating an inclusive school, childhood and growing up, and drama and art in education. Nine of those are common B.Ed foundation papers and can be revised from general teacher-eligibility material. The tenth, pedagogy of a school subject, is where history-specific content sits: the use of primary sources and evidence in the classroom, chronology and time-line skills, local history and heritage walks, museum and site visits, and how to assess historical reasoning rather than recall. Understanding discipline and subject also invites questions on historiography, which is worth reading as history rather than as pedagogy.

Post Code 831/24 carries 61 vacancies, 50 male and 11 female, against 432 across the advertisement. The male list is large enough that the cut-off behaves like the other big social-science codes, Hindi, Economics and Political Science, all of which draw heavily overlapping candidate pools from Delhi university departments. The female list of 11 is the pinch point: a small number of seats against a pool that does not shrink proportionately, which historically pushes the female cut-off in such codes above the male one. Since the result under Notice 1036 is now out, the operative concern for shortlisted candidates is the e-dossier stage, where selection can still be lost on documentation rather than marks. The reported 47-post next cycle, with 18 female seats, would ease that ratio if notified.
