Negative marking0.25 deducted per wrong MCQ; plus 1 for each correct answerApplies to both sections
Minimum qualifyingGeneral and EWS 40 per cent, OBC (Delhi) 35 per cent, SC, ST and PwD 30 per centOf 300

The decisive point for a Chemistry candidate is the two-to-one split. Two hundred of the three hundred marks come from Chemistry itself, so the subject paper, not the general part, settles the outcome. The Section A hundred is divided into five equal twenty-mark blocks, which means the Hindi and English comprehension blocks together carry as much as reasoning and numerical ability combined.

What this means for your preparation

The mistake that costs Chemistry candidates most is treating 827/24 as though it were a large recruitment. It is seven posts. With four male and three female vacancies spread across UR, OBC and SC, the unreserved cut-off behaves like a topper's list rather than a qualifying bar, and a reported Male UR figure of 247.11 out of 300 is what that looks like in practice. The second mistake is preparing Chemistry at senior-secondary depth when Section B is explicitly set on post-graduation content.

Seven posts make the cut-off extreme

Post Code 827/24 offers four male posts (one UR, three OBC) and three female posts (two UR, one SC). Against that, a reported Male Unreserved cut-off of 247.11 and a Female SC cut-off of 195.74 out of 300 are consistent: when a category has one or two seats, the mark that clears is set by the best one or two scripts in the hall, not by the 40 per cent qualifying floor. A Chemistry aspirant planning to scrape past 120 out of 300 because that is the General qualifying mark has misread the exam. The qualifying percentage only makes a script eligible to be ranked; the vacancy count decides who is called. Treat 240-plus as the working target for an unreserved Chemistry seat and budget preparation accordingly, rather than benchmarking against a larger subject such as Economics.

Section B is post-graduate Chemistry, not Class 12

The scheme of examination describes Section B as MCQs on the post-graduation qualification for the post plus teaching methodology. Reported topic coverage runs from basic concepts of chemistry, structure of the atom, chemical bonding and molecular structure, states of matter, thermodynamics and equilibrium, through redox reactions and electrochemistry, classification of elements and periodicity, coordination compounds and organometallics, chemical kinetics and surface chemistry, into the organic sequence from haloalkanes to biomolecules, polymers and environmental chemistry. The named spine looks like the NCERT sequence, but the level is postgraduate: expect coordination chemistry with crystal field reasoning, mechanism-level organic questions and numerical thermodynamics rather than recall. Prepare from an M.Sc.-level text for the physical and inorganic blocks and use the NCERT sequence only as a checklist of what may be asked.

Eligibility is wider than an M.Sc. in Chemistry

The reported essential qualification for PGT Chemistry accepts a Master's in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Applied Chemistry with at least 50 per cent marks, together with B.Ed. or another NCTE-recognised training degree, including the integrated B.A.B.Ed., B.Sc.B.Ed. and three-year B.Ed.-M.Ed. routes. That matters in two directions. Applied and industrial chemistry postgraduates are inside the door and should not self-exclude. Equally, they are competing on a Section B written for core chemistry, so an applied-chemistry background needs deliberate repair work on physical chemistry derivations and inorganic periodicity. The upper age limit is reported as 36 years for unreserved candidates, with the standard relaxations of five years for SC and ST, three for OBC, and up to fifteen for PwBD candidates in the SC and ST categories.

Negative marking punishes chemistry guessing

One mark for a correct answer and 0.25 off for a wrong one means four wrong answers erase one correct answer. In a 200-question Chemistry section that is a real hazard, because chemistry MCQs are written with near-miss distractors: a product with the wrong stereochemistry, a complex with the right geometry but the wrong spin state, an equilibrium expression with an inverted term. These are exactly the questions candidates feel confident about and get wrong. A practical rule is to answer freely where you can eliminate two of four options on structural grounds and to leave alone any question where the discrimination rests on a constant or a value you cannot recall. Where the paper is scored close to 250, twenty careless attempts are the whole margin.

Do not let the hundred-mark general half drift

Section A is a hundred marks split evenly into five twenty-mark blocks: mental ability and reasoning, general awareness, English language and comprehension, Hindi language and comprehension, and numerical aptitude with data interpretation. Chemistry postgraduates typically clear the numerical and reasoning blocks comfortably and lose ground on the Hindi comprehension block and on general awareness, which on this paper leans towards Indian history, polity, the Constitution, environment, geography, everyday science and national and international organisations. Forty of the hundred sit in the two language blocks. Since the CBT is bilingual, being able to read the Hindi comprehension passage properly is worth more preparation time than another pass through organic name reactions once the subject side is stable.

Common questions

What is the post code for DSSSB PGT Chemistry?

PGT Chemistry is Post Code 827/24 under Advertisement 10/2024, the combined PGT advertisement numbered F.1(384)/P&P/DSSSB/2024/Advt./7352 dated 30 December 2024, which covers post codes 824/24 to 834/24. DSSSB identifies every application, admit card, answer key and result notice by post code rather than by subject name, so 827/24 is the string to search for on the board's notices and results pages. Quoting the subject name alone will often miss the right notice.

How many vacancies are there for DSSSB PGT Chemistry?

Seven, as reported from the post-code-wise table for Advertisement 10/2024: four male posts, broken up as one UR and three OBC, and three female posts, two UR and one SC. That is one of the smallest blocks in an advertisement totalling 432 PGT vacancies, well below Economics at 82 and Commerce at 37. The small pool is the main reason the Chemistry unreserved cut-off sits far above the 40 per cent qualifying minimum.

How much of the DSSSB PGT Chemistry paper is actually Chemistry?

Two hundred of the three hundred marks. Section B is 200 MCQs of one mark each on the post-graduation Chemistry qualification and the teaching methodology required for the post. Section A is the remaining 100 marks, split into five equal 20-mark blocks covering mental ability and reasoning, general awareness, English comprehension, Hindi comprehension, and numerical aptitude with data interpretation. The whole paper is a single three-hour computer-based test with 0.25 negative marking.

What qualification do I need for DSSSB PGT Chemistry?

A Master's degree in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Applied Chemistry with at least 50 per cent marks, plus a B.Ed. or another degree or diploma in training or education from an NCTE-recognised institution; the integrated B.A.B.Ed., B.Sc.B.Ed. and three-year B.Ed.-M.Ed. routes are accepted. The upper age limit is reported as 36 years for unreserved candidates, with the usual category relaxations. Confirm the exact wording against the advertisement text before applying.

When was the DSSSB PGT Chemistry exam held and is the result out?

The Chemistry computer-based test for Post Code 827/24 was held on 17 April 2026 in both shifts, 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 5 pm, under the exam schedule DSSSB notified on 22 April 2026 for the combined PGT advertisement. The result has been declared and is reported among the August 2026 batch of PGT result notices, with illustrative cut-offs of 247.11 for Male UR and 195.74 for Female SC out of 300. Verify on the DSSSB results page.

Is the DSSSB PGT Chemistry syllabus at NCERT level or postgraduate level?

Postgraduate. The scheme of examination sets Section B on the post-graduation qualification for the post together with teaching methodology. Reported coverage spans basic concepts, atomic structure, bonding and molecular structure, states of matter, thermodynamics, equilibrium, redox and electrochemistry, periodicity, coordination compounds and organometallics, kinetics, surface chemistry, the organic sequence to biomolecules, polymers and environmental chemistry. The topic names follow the school sequence, but the questions are pitched at M.Sc. depth, which is why NCERT-only preparation under-performs on this paper.
