The 2026 cycle is complete, so nothing on this calendar is open for application. The only live dates are the 2027 entries, and those come from a calendar listing rather than a published examination notice. The 2026 sequence is the best guide to how the next cycle will run: roughly three weeks of online application in December, a mid-March paper, a written result in the spring, physical and medical testing in June, and a final result in early September.

The commonest mistake is treating this as a smaller version of the open CAPF Assistant Commandants examination. It is not. It is a limited departmental competitive examination with a single New Delhi centre, roughly twenty posts, a two-stage application that must physically clear the departmental channel, and a professional-skill component that assumes you already work in CISF. The second commonest mistake is missing the paper application deadline after completing the online one, which ends the attempt regardless of how well the candidate would have performed on the paper. The third is underestimating how quickly the post-written stages follow: in 2026 the written result, the physical testing at Noida and the medical examination all fell inside a single quarter.

Applying online is only half the process. For the 2026 cycle the online window closed on 23 December 2025 at 6 pm, but the printed application still had to travel through proper CISF channels and reach the Commission by 9 January. That is a departmental routing step, not a postal one, and it depends on your unit forwarding the form with the service particulars attested. Candidates who submit online at the last hour leave their unit almost no working days to process the hard copy. If the 2027 cycle keeps the same shape, start the internal paperwork the week the notification appears, not the week the online window closes.

Paper I carries 300 of the 400 written marks and is split evenly between General Ability and Intelligence, at 75 questions for 150 marks, and Professional Skill, also 75 questions for 150 marks. With negative marking reported at one third of the marks assigned per question, blind guessing across even a dozen items can cost more than a section's worth of careful work. The Professional Skill half is the part an outside coaching syllabus cannot supply: it rewards working familiarity with CISF duties, orders and the statutory framework you already operate under. Treat departmental material as primary reading rather than as revision at the end.

Paper II carries 100 marks across essay, precis writing and comprehension. The essay may be written in English or Hindi, but precis writing and comprehension are set in English only, so a candidate who plans to write the essay in Hindi still needs working English comprehension and the discipline of compressing a passage to a fixed length. Precis is a mechanical skill and improves quickly with practice against a word count and a clock. Because the written total is only 400 marks, a weak Paper II is difficult to recover from with objective accuracy alone.

In the 2026 cycle 79 candidates cleared the written examination and were called for Physical Standard and Efficiency Testing at CISF SSG Noida from 15 June, with detailed medical examination the following day and review medical at the ITBP hospital in Noida. Medical fitness is assessed to the SHAPE-1 standard, and at least one 2026 candidate was asked to produce a fresh SHAPE-I certificate because the earlier one had lapsed. Check the currency of your medical documentation while preparing, not after the result, because the gap between written result and PST was a matter of weeks.

UPSC publishes this examination in its annual calendar, which is why the 2027 notification and examination dates were visible long before any notice appeared. Reported dates of 25 November 2026 for the notification and 14 March 2027 for the written examination give roughly a three-and-a-half month run from notice to paper, and less than that from the close of applications.
