The same job title sits at very different levels depending on who is recruiting. The IBPS role is a bank officer post requiring a four-year agriculture degree; the TNPSC Assistant Agricultural Officer post is a diploma-entry state post; the Karnataka Agriculture Officer post requires B.Sc. (Agriculture) or B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, or specified B.Tech degrees, from an institution recognised by ICAR or AICTE. Read the notification for the body you are applying to and do not carry assumptions across from another state.

Dates in this table belong to four different recruiting bodies and do not form one calendar. The Karnataka written examination was itself a revised date, moved from an earlier August slot, so treat any KEA date as provisional until the hall ticket confirms it.

The most common and most expensive mistake is treating Agricultural Officer as one examination with one syllabus. Candidates prepare from material written for a different recruiter, then find the marks distribution, the negative marking and even the entry qualification do not match. Decide which body you are targeting first, then build the preparation around that notification alone.

Two reports of the same Karnataka cycle give different penalties: the notification coverage states a deduction of 0.75 marks per wrong answer, while the revised schedule notice states 0.25 marks, that is one quarter of a mark, for each wrong answer in the objective evaluation. That gap changes guessing strategy completely. At one quarter of a mark, an educated elimination down to two options is worth attempting; at 0.75 it is not. Do not settle this from a coaching page. Read the instruction sheet printed on the question paper and the hall ticket, and set your attempt threshold on the day from that, not from what you practised with. Where a paper carries 300 marks and the qualifying bar is stated as 35 marks out of 300, the real contest is rank, not the qualifying line.

IBPS Agriculture Field Officer is graded in three stages: a preliminary paper of 100 questions for 125 marks in 80 minutes, a main paper of 150 questions for 200 marks in 125 minutes, and an interview of 100 marks. The final merit is weighted 80 per cent main examination and 20 per cent interview, so the preliminary paper is purely a gate and contributes nothing to the ranking. With the mains set for 1 November 2026, candidates who cleared the 29 August preliminary have a short, well defined window in which only professional knowledge and interview preparation matter. Time spent re-drilling preliminary reasoning after the gate is cleared is time that scores nothing.

The TNPSC Assistant Agricultural Officer post advertised in July 2026 asks for a two-year Diploma in Agriculture, with an age band of 18 to 32 years for the general category and a Tamil language requirement. The IBPS Agriculture Field Officer post asks for a four-year degree in an agriculture-related discipline and an age band of 20 to 30 years. Karnataka asks for B.Sc. (Agriculture), B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture or specified B.Tech degrees from an ICAR or AICTE recognised institution. A diploma holder is eligible for one of these and not the others, and a graduate applying to the diploma-entry post may find the age ceiling tighter. Check the qualification clause before paying any fee.

The TNPSC Assistant Agricultural Officer structure puts 300 of the 450 total marks in Paper II, which is 200 questions on agriculture, against 150 marks in Paper I covering Tamil, general studies and aptitude. Karnataka splits 600 marks evenly between a general knowledge Paper 1 and a specified subject Paper 2 of 300 marks each. In both cases the technical subject is at least half the paper and in Tamil Nadu it is two thirds. Candidates coming from a general competitive background routinely over-invest in current affairs and reasoning because that material is easier to find, and under-invest in agronomy, soil science, horticulture and extension, which is where the separation actually happens.

TNPSC hosted candidate copies of OMR answer sheets on 11 September 2026 for the Assistant Agricultural Officer and Assistant Horticultural Officer recruitment, the Assistant Director of Horticulture and Horticultural Officer recruitment and the Agricultural Officer (Extension) recruitment, accessible through the One Time Registration ID until 10 September 2027. A copy of your own marked sheet is the only way to verify a scoring dispute, and the one-year window is generous by Indian recruitment standards. Download it when it opens rather than when you need it. Karnataka's process similarly does not end with the written paper: a Kannada language test follows, to be notified after the written result, and then merit listing and document verification.
