Checked 7 October 2026. The pay levels and the 10% special pay are printed in the ESSE 2025 bulletin. DA follows central rates: a NESTS notice confirms the July 2025 step, and the 60% from 1 January 2026 is from a central order that we did not see NESTS apply. NESTS states no HRA rate and no pension contribution rate in anything we read, so both appear only as what-ifs. A July 2026 DA revision had not been seen in an official document on 7 October 2026. The 8th Pay Commission has not reported.

An EMRS TGT is paid in Level 7 of the Pay Matrix, Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400, and a TGT Art, Music or PET teacher in Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400; every EMRS employee also gets special pay of 10% of basic pay. Those are printed in the ESSE 2025 bulletin, which adds that staff get rent-free accommodation as available and "admissible allowances". At the central DA of 60% from 1 January 2026, an entry TGT’s basic of Rs 44,900 plus DA, special pay and the lower-rate transport allowance comes to about Rs 79,210 a month gross (our arithmetic), assuming no house rent allowance because staff live in campus quarters. NESTS states no in-hand figure, so this page shows each assumption and gives a calculator.

Two sentences in the bulletin matter more than the levels. First: "All the staff in EMRSs are eligible for special pay @ 10% of the basic pay." Second: teachers "are required to stay on campus for which rent free accommodation as available will be provided." The first adds a tenth to basic. The second is why this page does not assume house rent allowance: if you are given campus quarters, HRA is not obviously payable, and no NESTS notice we read gives an HRA rate. The bulletin also says selected candidates are NESTS employees, may be posted anywhere in India, and are on probation for two years, which can be extended.

For the allowances in remote postings, NESTS published a table. In the Himachal Pradesh schools Pangi, Lahul, Brahmour and Nichar and J&K’s Gurej, tough location allowance is Rs 5,125 a month for pay level 8 and below (Rs 6,625 for level 9 and above); for Poonch, Koternaka and Rajouri it is Rs 3,375 (Rs 4,250). For listed North East and Ladakh schools it also lists special duty allowance at 10% of basic pay and a special compensatory (remote locality) allowance by area. Read the notice for your school; we do not model it.

Entry-level gross salary, three ways

Take the Level 7 entry basic of Rs 44,900. DA at 60% is Rs 26,940 and special pay at 10% is Rs 4,490. The three columns below differ only in what you assume about HRA and transport. Column A is campus accommodation with the lower transport rate and no HRA. Column B adds a house rent allowance at 10% of basic, the lowest central rate. Column C is the highest assumption: HRA at 30% and the higher transport rate. We expect most EMRS postings, which are in blocks and not in large cities, to look like column A or B, but that is our expectation, not a NESTS statement.

Segments are our arithmetic from the table above; basic and the 10% are printed, DA and transport are central rates, HRA is a what-if.

For Level 6 (Art, Music, PET), the entry basic of Rs 35,400 gives DA of Rs 21,240 and special pay of Rs 3,540, and with transport of Rs 1,800 plus DA the gross in column A terms is Rs 63,060 (our arithmetic). Every figure here is before income tax and before the group-insurance and other deductions that NESTS does not publish rates for.

What one DA point and the next revision do

DA is the largest allowance, so it drives the number. At the Level 7 entry, one percentage point of DA adds Rs 449 on basic and Rs 18 on the Rs 1,800 transport allowance, so Rs 467 a month in column A terms (our arithmetic). NESTS applied the central 3% increase of July 2025 with the October 2025 salary and told schools to compute arrears automatically. The table shows the same formula at other DA values; they are not forecasts.

Increments, promotion to PGT and the longer view

Basic pay moves up the Level 7 cells with annual increments; the bulletin prints only the first and last cell, and a NESTS notice of 27 January 2025 is titled as instructions on the increment process and arrears. The older Recruitment Rules copy (listed 5 July 2023) describes the next step. A TGT with three years of regular service in EMRS and a Master’s degree in the concerned subject can be promoted to PGT (Level 8, Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100) after a departmental examination conducted by NESTS, with a feeder table: Mathematics to PGT Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry (if PCM was studied at graduation and the Master’s is in one of them), Science to PGT Biology or Chemistry, Social Studies to PGT History or Geography, Hindi to PGT Hindi, English to PGT English and Regional Language to PGT Regional Language. Promotion is subject to a vacancy in the subject, irrespective of seniority as TGT.

Hindi, English, Regional Language50%50%
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography (other subjects)25%75%
Computer Science (separate rule)none100%

That table is our reading of the 2023 rules copy, which says "for other subjects - 25% by promotion and 75% by direct recruitment", names PGT Commerce and PGT Economics as 100% by direct recruitment and gives PGT Computer Science its own rule. Rules change, so confirm the current ones before you plan a career on the promotion quota. Other notices to know: newly joined staff in vacation are marked on leave without pay during the vacation and their salary is released as arrears once 150 days (excluding vacations) are complete (notice of 28 May 2025); electricity charges may be deducted from salary where the state does not provide it free; and a posted candidate cannot ask NESTS to change the place of posting.

If you are weighing the job against a Kendriya Vidyalaya or a state post, compare the pay level, the special pay, the residential duties (house mastership, remedial and supervisory studies, escorting students) and the posting freedom, not only the headline. For eligibility and the exam that gets you there, see the eligibility guide, the pattern guide and the vacancy guide; for how far the 2025 cycle has got, the result guide.

What is the salary of an EMRS TGT?

Pay level 7 of the Pay Matrix, Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400, plus 10% special pay and DA. At DA 60% and no HRA the entry gross is about Rs 79,210 a month by our arithmetic; NESTS states no in-hand figure.

What is the in-hand salary of an EMRS TGT?

It depends on deductions NESTS does not publish rates for. If you assume a 10% pension contribution on basic plus DA (an illustration, not a NESTS statement), the entry gross of Rs 79,210 comes to about Rs 72,026 before insurance and tax.

Is it Pay Level 7 for EMRS TGT?

For the core subjects, Regional Language, Computer Science and Librarian, yes: Level 7, Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400. TGT Art, Music and Physical Education are in Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400.

What is special pay in EMRS?

The bulletin says all staff are eligible for special pay of 10% of basic pay, for the residential duties of the schools. A NESTS notice says it is paid on casual, restricted, earned and commuted leave, at half on half-pay leave and proportionately reduced on extraordinary leave.

Do EMRS teachers get HRA?

The notices we read state no HRA rate; the bulletin says rent-free accommodation will be provided as available. If you are not given quarters, ask NESTS or your state society what applies; this page treats HRA as a what-if.

Do EMRS TGT teachers have a pension?

A NESTS notice tells newly joined employees to obtain a PRAN under the National Pension System. The contribution rate is not stated in it.

Can a TGT be promoted to PGT in EMRS?

The rules copy we read allows it after three years of regular TGT service in EMRS, with a Master’s degree in the subject and a NESTS departmental examination, subject to a vacancy; quotas differ by subject. Confirm the current rules.
