Checked 7 October 2026. Rules are those of the ESSE 2025 Information Bulletin with the eligibility cut-off date 23.10.2025. A next ESSE notification can change the age limit, the percentage rules or the CTET requirement; the 2023 TGT notification printed no minimum percentage in the degree rows we read. We read the bulletin, not the underlying NESTS recruitment rules file in detail, and the bulletin’s PG-route sentence is worded ambiguously (see below).
For ESSE 2025, a TGT candidate in Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies or a regional language needed a bachelor’s degree with the subject and at least 50% in every subject and in aggregate, a B.Ed. with at least 50%, a CTET Paper-II certificate, and an age of not more than 35 on 23 October 2025. Women, reserved categories, persons with benchmark disabilities and some employees get relaxations; they are not added together, only the highest one applies, with a ceiling of 55. TGT Computer Science, Art, Music, PET and Librarian have different, subject-specific degrees and list no B.Ed. or CTET. Everything is from the Information Bulletin (section 4); below are the routes, the subject conditions, the age arithmetic, what changed from 2023, and a checker.
All four are printed in the bulletin. The cut-off date is 23.10.2025 even though the last date to apply was extended to 28.10.2025.
ProSyllabus is an independent study site. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), the Central Board of Secondary Education or the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Every rule below is quoted or summarised from their published documents, and every sum, ratio or date calculation is labelled as our own arithmetic. We print no candidate names or roll numbers.
The qualification routes for the core subjects and Regional Language
The bulletin sets three parts, labelled A, B and C, for TGT in Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and the regional languages. A is the degree, B is the education degree, and C is CTET. You need all three, though a four-year integrated degree with a B.Ed. component makes B unnecessary. The table lays the three out as the bulletin prints them.
| Part | What is printed | B.Ed. needed? |
|---|---|---|
| A. Degree, route 1 | Four-year integrated degree from an NCTE-recognised institution, at least 50% in all subjects individually and in aggregate | No (the integrated course carries it) |
| A. Degree, route 2 | Bachelor’s or Honours degree from a recognised institution, at least 50% in all subjects individually and also in aggregate | Yes, part B |
| A. Degree, route 3 | Post-graduation in the subject (or any specialisation in it) with at least 55% or equivalent grade, provided the subject was studied at graduation level | Yes, part B |
| B. Education degree | B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution with at least 50%, or a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. with at least 50% | For TGT Regional Language only, a degree in Education approved by the State Government for teacher posts, as on the cut-off date, is also allowed |
| C. CTET | Qualified Central Teacher Eligibility Test, Paper-II, certificate issued on or before the cut-off date | Not applicable |

The sentence on the post-graduate route is ambiguous in the bulletin
Route 3 as printed ends with "and three years integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed from NCTE recognized institution with atleast 50% marks", which reads like part of the education-degree rule (B) that was joined to the degree rule (A). We model route 3 as "PG at 55% plus the subject studied at graduation", with part B (B.Ed. 50% or integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.) separately required, which is the reading that matches part B. If your case depends on this sentence, ask NESTS in writing before you apply.

Fifty per cent in every subject, not only the aggregate
The printed rule is "at least 50% marks in all subjects individually as well as in the aggregate". A candidate with 58% overall but 46% in one subject of the degree falls outside the rule as written. The bulletin also says that where grades or CGPA are given, the mark-sheet showing the equivalent percentage must be produced at document verification, so keep that conversion document ready.
Subject conditions: what you must have studied
The qualification is not just any degree. For each post the bulletin names the subjects that have to appear in your degree, and for how long. This is the point at which many otherwise eligible people fall out, because degree names (B.Sc. Physics, B.A. Political Science) rarely say what was studied in which year.
| Post | Subject condition (printed) |
|---|---|
| TGT Hindi | Hindi as an elective or main subject in all three years of graduation |
| TGT English | English as an elective or main subject in all three years of graduation |
| TGT Mathematics | All three: Mathematics as elective or main in all three years; Physics for at least one year or two semesters; and one of Chemistry, Electronics, Computer Science or Statistics for at least one year or two semesters. B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics or Chemistry alone is not eligible. CBCS candidates with these subjects are also eligible |
| TGT Science | Biology, Life Science, Botany or Zoology as Honours or main subject in all three years, with Chemistry and Botany or Zoology (for Biology or Life Science), or Chemistry and Zoology (for Botany), or Chemistry and Botany (for Zoology), each for at least one year or two semesters |
| TGT Social Studies | Any two of History, Geography, Economics and Political Science, of which one must be History or Geography in all three years as an elective or main subject, and the second for at least one year or two semesters |
| TGT Regional Language | The concerned regional language as a subject or elective in all three years of the degree |
Computer Science, Art, Music, PET and Librarian: different degrees, no CTET listed
Five TGT lines are not bound to the A, B, C structure. The bulletin gives each its own essential qualification and, for none of them, lists CTET or a B.Ed. We count the CTET-bound lines at 2,223 posts of 3,962 (56.1%, our sum of Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and the 14 regional languages), which leaves 1,739 posts (43.9%) in lines where the bulletin does not ask for it. Do not read this as a general rule: it is what the 2025 bulletin prints, and the older 2023 notification asked for CTET in a note covering "TGTs" generally.
| Line | Essential qualification (printed) |
|---|---|
| TGT Computer Science (550 posts) | BCA with at least 50%; or a graduation in Computer Science or IT with at least 50% in the subject and in aggregate, the subject being studied in all years as a main subject; or BE or B.Tech in Computer Science or IT with at least 50% |
| TGT Art (279) | Bachelor’s degree in Drawing and Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art, Fine Arts or Visual Art with at least 50%, with Drawing and Painting as a main subject in all three years |
| TGT Music (314) | Bachelor’s degree in Music or Performing Arts from a UGC-recognised institution with at least 50% in the subject and in aggregate, Music being a main subject in all three years |
| TGT PET, male and female (472 together) | Four-year integrated B.P.Ed. with at least 50%; or a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (or Physical Education and Sports) with at least 50%, with Physical Education studied in all three years, plus a B.P.Ed. of at least one year with at least 50%; or a bachelor’s degree with Physical Education as an elective at 50% and participation in recognised national, state or inter-university competition plus a B.P.Ed. of at least one year at 50% |
| TGT Librarian (124) | Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, or in Library and Information Science, or an integrated Master of Library and Information Science, in each case with at least 50% |
Age limit and the relaxations
The limit for every TGT line is "not exceeding 35 years" on the cut-off date, 23 October 2025. The table gives the resulting limit for each group and the earliest date of birth that is exactly at the limit (our arithmetic, counting exactly N years back from 23 October 2025). The bulletin says concessions are concurrent: if you qualify for more than one, only the highest applies, and nobody can go above 55. Persons with disabilities have fixed limits that already include their category, and the bulletin says the women’s 10 years does not apply to a woman with a disability.
| Group | Relaxation (printed) | Upper age limit | Born on or after (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| General or EWS, man | none | 35 years | 23 October 1990 |
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years | 38 years | 23 October 1987 |
| SC or ST | 5 years | 40 years | 23 October 1985 |
| Woman, any category (not PwBD) | 10 years, for PGT and TGT posts only | 45 years | 23 October 1980 |
| Central government employee with 3 years’ continuous service in the same or allied cadre | 5 years | 40 years | 23 October 1985 |
| Domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989 | 5 years | 40 years | 23 October 1985 |
| PwBD, General or EWS (including women) | 10 years | 45 years | 23 October 1980 |
| PwBD, OBC (including women) | 13 years | 48 years | 23 October 1977 |
| PwBD, SC or ST (including women) | 15 years | 50 years | 23 October 1975 |
| Regular EMRS employee, or non-permanent EMRS staff working on 01.07.2025 | up to 55 years including all relaxation | 55 years | Not applicable: limit is 55, see the bulletin note |
Limits are 35 plus the printed relaxation (our sum), capped at 55. Ex-servicemen deduct their service from their age and may then exceed the limit by up to three years; that rule is not drawn here.
Three details to note. First, "not exceeding 35" is silent about the days: someone born on 23 October 1989 turned 36 on the cut-off date and is plainly over, while someone born on 25 October 1989 is 35 years and 363 days old, which the bulletin does not clearly classify. The checker below flags that band instead of guessing. Second, the age is on 23 October 2025 even though applications closed on 28 October 2025. Third, a non-permanent EMRS employee working on 1 July 2025 gets up to 55 including all relaxation, with no relaxation in the minimum eligibility criteria.
What changed from the 2023 TGT notification
The 2023 TGT and Hostel Warden notification (18 July 2023) already required CTET and a B.Ed. for TGT, except that a four-year integrated degree did not need the B.Ed., and it had the same age limit of 35, the same relaxations and the same 55-year limit for EMRS employees. In the degree rows we read, no minimum percentage was printed. The 2025 bulletin adds that percentage rule (50% in every subject and in aggregate, 55% for the PG route), a Computer Science line with its own degrees, and detailed degree rules for Art, Music, PET and Librarian.
| Rule | 2023 TGT notification | 2025 bulletin |
|---|---|---|
| Age limit | Not exceeding 35 | Not exceeding 35 on 23.10.2025 |
| CTET | Required for TGT | Paper-II, certificate on or before the cut-off date, for the core subjects and Regional Language |
| B.Ed. | Required, not for a four-year integrated degree | At least 50%; not needed for a four-year integrated degree; state-approved education degree allowed for Regional Language |
| Minimum marks in degree | No percentage printed in the rows we read | 50% in all subjects individually and in aggregate; 55% for the PG route |
| Women’s relaxation | 10 years, for TGT posts | 10 years, for PGT and TGT posts |
| Computer Science TGT | No such line | 550 posts, BCA, CS or IT degree, or BE or B.Tech |
Documents and rejection risks
Eligibility is decided on documents at the verification stage, and the bulletin lets NESTS reject you at any stage, even after an admit card is issued or after joining, if you were not eligible on the cut-off date. The certificates it names are: age and qualification proof, caste certificates in the prescribed format, an OBC non-creamy-layer certificate based on income of the financial year 2024-25, an EWS income and asset certificate for the same year issued by a listed authority, a disability certificate and, for PwBD candidates, a certificate from a Civil Surgeon or CMO that the functional requirements for the post are met. Names must be spelt as in the certificates. The bulletin says information in the application is final and NESTS does not edit it, so a wrong category or a wrong qualification entry cannot be fixed later.
Before you spend on an application, check the posts and the competition in the vacancy guide, what you will sit in the pattern and syllabus guide and how earlier cut-offs fell in the cut-off guide.
Is CTET compulsory for EMRS TGT?
For Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Regional Language, yes: CTET Paper-II, with the certificate issued on or before the cut-off date. The 2025 bulletin lists no CTET for Computer Science, Art, Music, PET or Librarian.
What is the age limit for EMRS TGT?
Not exceeding 35 years on 23 October 2025. Relaxations: SC and ST 5 years, OBC non-creamy layer 3, women 10, PwBD 10 to 15 depending on category, central government employees with three years of service 5, and up to 55 for EMRS employees. Only the highest concession applies, capped at 55.
Is B.Ed. required for EMRS TGT?
Yes, with at least 50%, unless your degree is a four-year integrated one with a B.Ed. component. For TGT Regional Language a state-approved education degree is accepted instead.
Can I apply with a post-graduation degree only?
The PG route needs at least 55% in the subject, the subject studied at graduation level, and the education degree and CTET still apply. The bulletin’s sentence on this route is ambiguous, so confirm with NESTS if your case depends on it.
Do I need 50% in each subject of my degree?
On the degree route, yes: the bulletin asks at least 50% in all subjects individually and also in aggregate. A higher overall percentage does not cure one subject below 50.
What are the TGT Computer Science eligibility rules?
BCA with at least 50%, or a graduation in Computer Science or IT with at least 50% in the subject and in aggregate with the subject studied in all years as a main subject, or BE or B.Tech in Computer Science or IT with at least 50%. No B.Ed. or CTET is listed.
Which date is used for the age and qualification check?
23 October 2025, the cut-off date in the bulletin. The last date to apply was later extended to 28 October 2025, but the extension notice says the cut-off date stays 23 October 2025.
